Study and New Criteria for the Assessment of Upholstery Leathers with a Pigment Finish in Relation to the Characteristics Recommended in the PN-EN 13336 Standard

The fundamental physical, mechanical and chemical properties given in the PN-EN 13336:2013 standard ("Leathers – Upholstery leather characteristics – Guide for selection of leather for furniture") were examined for 27 selected upholstery leathers with a pigment finishing. Colour resistance to rubbing with dry, wet felt, and felt socked with artificial perspiration solution, adhesion of the finish, flex resistance, tear strength, colour fastness to a water spot, and the pH of water extracts were determined. Moreover, some features of these upholstery leathers which are not listed in the standard were also tested, namely the tensile strength, maximal elongation, distension and strength at a crack of the grain or finish and at the bursting of the full thickness of the leather tested as well as the content of chromium(VI). It was found that the majority of the leathers tested fulfilled the recommended values of characteristics given in the PN-EN 13336:2013 standard. Some deviations from these values were random and did not depend on the colour of the finish. Leathers with a twocolour covering (so-called “antique” finish) did not show worse properties than those with a one-colour finish. On the basis of the results obtained, a wider range of the fundamental tests and other values of parameters generally higher than those recommended in the standard are proposed for the quality assessment of upholstery leathers with a pigment finish.

Zbadano podstawowe właściwości fizyczne, mechaniczne oraz chemiczne 27 wybranych skór tapicerskich z wykończeniem pigmentowym. Wyznaczono wymienione w normie PN-EN 13336:2013 („Skóra wyprawiona – Właściwości skór tapicerskich – Wytyczne do selekcjonowania skór meblowych”) następujące parametry: odporność na tarcie na sucho, na mokro i z udziałem roztworu sztucznego potu, adhezję powłoki kryjącej, wytrzymałość na wielokrotne zginanie, wytrzymałość na rozdzieranie, odporność barwy na kroplę wody, wartości pH ekstraktów wodnych ze skóry. Określono także niektóre parametry skór tapicerskich spoza zakresu wskazanego w normie, a mianowicie: wytrzymałość na rozciąganie i maksymalne wydłużenie, wytrzymałość lica/skóry na przepuklenie (wartość siły i wysokość przepuklenia przy pęknięciu lica i przy przebiciu skóry) oraz zawartość chromu(VI). Stwierdzono, że większość zbadanych skór spełniała wymagania zalecane w normie PN-EN 13336:2013. Zaobserwowane odchylenia od zalecanych wartości wskaźników były przypadkowe i nie zależały od barwy powłoki wykończeniowej skóry. Skóry z dwubarwną powłoką wykończeniową, tzw. antykowaną, nie wykazywały gorszych właściwości niż skóry z jednobarwną powłoką kryjącą. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników, zaproponowano do oceny jakości skór tapicerskich z pigmentową powłoką kryjącą nowy, szerszy zakres badań podstawowych oraz inne, na ogół wyższe niż podane w normie, wartości zalecanych wskaźników.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań własności wytrzymałościowych tapicerskich pokryć sprzętu medycznego. Przedmiotem zainteresowania badawczego były operacyjne stoły chirurgiczne, zaś celem pracy jakość użytkowa tapicerek, okalających stoły chirurgiczne. Do badań wytypowano trzy różne pokrycia obiciowe. Zakres pracy obejmował wycięcie próbek z tapicerek zdemontowanych ze stołów chirurgicznych oraz przeprowadzenie stosownych badań i analiz. Wnioski formułowano na podstawie wyników z przeprowadzonych pomiarów.

The paper presents the results of research on strength properties of medical equipment covers. The subject of research interest were surgical operating tables. The aim of the work was to assess the utility value of upholstery surrounding surgical tables. Three different covers were selected for the tests. The scope of work included cutting out samples from upholstery dismantled from surgical tables and carrying out selected tests and analyzes. The conclusions were based on the results of the measurements carried out.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań odporności aseptycznej oraz własności wytrzymałościowych pokryć sprzętu medycznego. Przedmiotem zainteresowania badawczego są fotele dentystyczne. Do badań mikrobiologicznych wytypowano tapicerkę roczną oraz piętnastoletnią. Następnie przeprowadzono posiew i inkubację wybranych gatunków bakterii. Badania mechaniczne wniosły informację o odporności tapicerek na ścieranie oraz przepuszczalności powietrza. Chemiczne natomiast, poinformowały o odporności wybarwień na działanie potu kwaśnego i alkalicznego. Wnioski formułowano na podstawie wyników z przeprowadzonych pomiarów. Stwierdzono, że klasa zachowań bakterii na tapicerkach pozostawała w funkcji czasu ich eksploatacji.

The paper presents the results of resistance testing aseptic and the strength properties of the coatings of medical equipment. The subject of this research are dental chairs. For the microbiological examination a 15 year old and 1 year ago upholstery was selected. A further step is the seeding and incubation of selected species of bacteria. The mechanical tests carried out have made information about upholstery resistance to abrasion about upholstery resistance to abrasion and breath ability. Chemical whereas inform about the colour fastness to perspiration acid and alkaline sweat. The requests were formulated on the basis of the taken results. It was found out that the class behaviour a function of time of their operation.
