Carbon nanotubes - a key to the formation of novel nanostructures via a substitution process

Molecular nanostructures, such as nanotubes and nanocapsules, represent ideal building blocks for nanoelectronic devices due to their unique electronic properties. We have presented recent progress in the formation of the novel nanostructures which have been produced by the substitution reaction from single- and multi- wall carbon nanotube templates. In detail, we report on the formation of the muti-walled boron nitride nanotubes and boron doped single-wall carbon nanotubes, silicon carbide nanostructures and gallium nitride nanorods. The morphology, crystal structure and the atomic ratio of the samples have been characterized by the transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and electron energy-loss spectroscopy.
