In the previous year, the 7th Garden Festival in Bolestraszyce was already held. It is an annual event that brings together Polish garden enthusiasts and creators, teachers and young landscape architecture adepts, and even primary school representatives. Festivals have been organized since 2011 by the Arboretum and the Department of Physiography in Bolestraszyce, near Przemyśl. It has been initiated thanks to the funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The festival is surrounded by the substantive care of the Landscape Architecture Association, the Association of Polish Landscape Architects, the Polish Nurserymen Association and the Polish Dendrological Society. Show gardens are an unusual variety of gardens – they serve to present the latest trends in the art of space arrangement and present, popularize new plant varieties. In recent years, they have also gained a wider educational function, often referring to environmental problems or various socio-cultural issues.

Niemieckie wystawy ogrodowe Bundesgartenschau (BUGA) oraz Internationale Gartenausstellung (IGA) są ważnym wydarzeniem nie tylko w kalendarzu osób interesujących się ogrodnictwem. Organizowane nie w jednym, stałym miejscu, ale jako wydarzenie odbywające się w różnych miastach stają się istotnym przykładem rewitalizacji obszarów zdegradowanych i ich wpływu na funkcjonowanie całej struktury miasta. Historia wystaw sięga lat 50. XX wieku – powojennej odbudowy kraju. Postanowiono wówczas połączyć prezentację najnowszych osiągnięć ogrodnictwa z działaniami na rzecz odnowy zniszczonych terenów. Głównym celem stało się podniesienie jakości życia mieszkańców przez wprowadzanie terenów zieleni oraz pobudzanie gospodarki. Po zakończeniu ekspozycji zagospodarowane obszary są udostępniane mieszkańcom w formie parków publicznych. Tworzą one zielone oazy, które od ponad 60 lat są miejscem wypoczynku i kontaktu z przyrodą, tak potrzebnego w zurbanizowanym środowisku.

German horticultural shows Bundesgartenschau (BUGA) and Internationale Gartenausstellung (IGA) are a landmark not only in the calendar of people interested in gardening. Organised not in one, permanent venue, but as the event held in different cities, shows become a significant example of the urban regenaration and its influence on the whole structure of the city. The history of exhibitions dates back to 1950s and post-war reconstruction of the country. It was decided then to combine the presentation of latest achievements of the horticulture with work towards regeneration of run-down areas. A main purpose was to raise the quality of life of residents by introducing green areas and boosting the economy. When an exhibition expires its area is being opened to public as city park. For over 60 years these areas created places of leisure and contact with nature, which is very important in the urbanised environment.
