W pracy przedstawiono model obciążeń układu dryfkotwy dla fali nieregularnej i przejściowej. Układ dryfkotwy jest systemem szeregowym poddawanym cyklicznym obciążeniom powstającym na skutek oddziaływania fali. Układ dryfkotwy poddawany cyklicznym obciążeniom może ulec uszkodzeniu w wyniku kumulowania się mikrouszkodzeń. Ponadto awaria układu może także nastąpić w przypadku, gdy wielkość siły przekroczy wytrzymałość któregoś z elementów układu. Wyniki uzyskano na podstawie badań modelu tratwy z dryfkotwą na basenie modelowym dla różnych wariantów obciążenia i dryfu tratwy.

For this report the term drogue is used to describe a drag device of any type or size according to SOLAS regulations and may be used interchangeably with the term sea anchor. Model tests were conducted to investigate the use of drogues to prevent breaking wave capsizing of life raft. A mathematical model was prepared for fatigue loads of a life raft and drogue in irregular waves and in breaking waves. The drogue handled well throughout the test. The working load under storm conditions will be on the order of 10% of the minimum breaking strength and well within the fatigue limit. The maximal shock force measured during test was greater then 2 kN, in raft scale, for 10 person life raft full loaded and drifted with 1 kn speed. All elements of the equipment must be carefully selected. For example, the sheet metal thimble commonly used for an eye splice would not be adequate for the swivel. All shackles, eyes and swivels must be rated above the design load. The tests were the first phase of the investigation. The second phase will include fullscale tests under real storm conditions.
