A Novel Prony Approach for Synchronous Generator Parameter Estimation

In this paper we propose to use a novel Prony’s approach, relying on suitable time-segmentation of current oscillograms and proper model order choice, to estimate transient and sub-transient parameters of synchronous generators associated to sudden three-phase short-circuit tests. Comparison between the proposed approach and a traditional graphical method, described in the IEEE-115 standard, has been performed. The current data used here have been generated from characteristic equations of short-circuit armature current. Based on these results, we conclude that the Prony’s algorithm is a suitable alternative to the graphical method for parameter estimation in synchronous machines, providing more accurate estimates than the later approach.

W artykule zaproponowano system, bazujący na algorytmie Prony, służący do analizy stanów przejściowych w generatorze synchronicznym poddanym testom trójfazowego zwarcia. Porównano tę metodę z tradycyjną metodą bazującą na normie IEEE-115. Algorytm wykorzystujący metodę Prony był bardzie dokładny.

Wybór metody weryfikacji wytrzymałości zwarciowej, rzutujący znacząco na cenę transformatora powinien być przedmiotem ustaleń między zamawiającym i producentem przy zawieraniu kontraktu. Dokonując wyboru należy mieć na uwadze fakt, że próba zwarciowa jest próbą specjalną, obciążają zwykle kosztami klienta. Producent transformatorów nie może natomiast oczekiwać, aby norma IEC 60076-5:2000 mogła wyręczyć go w opracowywaniu i doskonaleniu własnych metod obliczeniowych.

Choice of verification method of short circuit strength influencing consi-derable the price of a transformer should be a matter of an agreement in a contract between a client and a manufacturer. Choosing it one should know that short circuit test is a special test charging with costs the client usually. The manufacturer however can not expect that the IEC 60076--5:2000 standard relieves him of elaboration and making better it calculation methods.
