The present paper comprises three basic issues: The inevitability of there arising new centers of business with the preponderance of tall and high-rise buildings both in Polish cities as well as those of other Central and Eastern European countries, particularly in view of the imminent integration with the European Union and the ongoing process of globalization. The chances and perspectives for the integration of such areas with the existing urban tissue which has been shaped in the course of the historical process. An attempt to identify the potential chances of influencing the character of the ongoing changes by a conscious analysis of the existing dangers facing the contemporary architects and urban planners.
