Speculations on rotational effects related to incident seismic waves go far into the 19th century. Up to now, heated discussions go on as concerns the existence, nature and importance of possible rotation component of incident seismic waves, which allegedly may cause rotational displacements of the masses located on the Earth's surface. In this paper we analyze the possible causes of seismic rotation effects and we discuss some historical images clearly displaying rotation of objects on the ground surface. Further we present a brief theoretical discussion and we refer to the modern techniques for recording the rotation motion velocities; finally we analyze some already recorded data, however, we have to admit that we cannot prove yet a direct relation between the discussed macro-rotation effects and the micro-rotation motions derived recently from seismograms.
