Powszechne przekonanie, że bezpieczeństwo w lotnictwie jest tworzone przez glo- balne i regionalne międzynarodowe organizacje lotnicze jest prawdziwe, jednak nie w peł- ni oddaje istotę problemu. Ważne są standardy oraz wytyczne kształtujące system bezpie- czeństwa w lotnictwie, jednak są to tylko strategiczne narzędzia do kształtowania polityki i programów bezpieczeństwa w lotnictwie. Rzeczywiste działanie w tym obszarze jest rea- lizowane na samym dole struktury lotniczej, bezpośrednio w przedsiębiorstwie lotniczym, szczególnie w liniach lotniczych, a więc u przewoźników, świadczących przewozy lotnicze oraz usługi towarowe. Przyczynkiem do podjęcia badań w tym obszarze była próba poszu- kiwania odpowiedzi na pytania: na ile polityka bezpieczeństwa, prowadzona przez przed- siębiorstwa lotnicze, wpływa na wizerunek tych przedsiębiorstw oraz ocenę i odczucia bezpieczeństwa przez pasażerów, jak również: czy inwestowanie w bezpieczeństwo liniom lotniczym się opłaca? Powyższe problemy, w formie sprawozdania z przeprowadzonych badań, stanowią zasadnicze treści niniejszego artykułu, warto także zaznaczyć, że fragmentaryczne badania, podjęte podczas pracy nad tematem uwarunkowania bezpieczeństwa w liniach lotniczych, mogą stanowić podstawę do planowania dalszych badań w tym obszarze.

The widespread belief that security in aviation is the result of cooperation between global and regional branches of international aviation organizations is true, however, it does not convey the essence of the problem. Standards and guidelines shaping the sys- tem of security are important, but they are merely strategic tools used to create the policy and security programs in aviation. The real action in the area of security is done at the very bottom of aviation structure, directly in aviation companies, especially in airlines which provide air transport and cargo services. What contributed to undertaking research in this area was the attempt to answer some questions, like: to what extent the security policy conducted by airlines influences their image and the passengers’ evaluation and feelings of security. Another question is whether investment in security is profitable for airlines. Above mentioned problems, in the form of a report on research results, are included in this article. It is also worth mentioning that the fragmentary research, undertaken while work- ing on the issue of security in airline services, may be the basis for further research in the area.

The common belief that security in aviation is created through global and regional international aviation organizations is true, however it does not entirely convey the core of the problem. Standards and guidelines creating the system of security in aviation are important, however, they are merely strategic tools for creating the policy and security strategies in aviation. The real activity in this area is realized at the beginning of aviation structure, directly in air companies, particularly in airlines which provide air transport and cargo services. The reason to undertake research in this area was the attempt to find answers to the questions, like: to what extent the policy conducted by air companies influences their image, as well as the passengers’ evaluation and feelings of security. Another question is whether investment in security is profitable for airlines? The above mentioned problems, in the form of a report on research results, are included in this article. It should be also mentioned that the partial research undertaken while working on the issue of security in airlines may be the basis for further research in the area.
