The goal of this article is to present and compare recent approaches which use speech and voice analysis as biomarkers for screening tests and monitoring of some diseases. The article takes into account metabolic, respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, and nervous system disorders. A selection of articles was performed to identify studies that assess voice features quantitatively in selected disorders by acoustic and linguistic voice analysis. Information was extracted from each paper in order to compare various aspects of datasets, speech parameters, methods of applied analysis and obtained results. 110 research papers were reviewed and 47 databases were summarized. Speech analysis is a promising method for early diagnosis of certain disorders. Advanced computer voice analysis with machine learning algorithms combined with the widespread availability of smartphones allows diagnostic analysis to be conducted during the patient’s visit to the doctor or at the patient’s home during a telephone conversation. Speech analysis is a simple, low-cost, non-invasive and easy-toprovide method of medical diagnosis. These are remarkable advantages, but there are also disadvantages. The effectiveness of disease diagnoses varies from 65% up to 99%. For that reason it should be treated as a medical screening test and should be an indication of the need for classic medical tests.

The article presents the concept of a maintenance-free inspection station intended for conducting drive-thru tests of commercial vehicles. The main purpose of building this type of diagnostic line is to carry out non-invasive, preliminary tests of heavy-duty vehicles entering the vehicle service area in terms of parameters affecting the safety of their operation in relation to the applicable standards. The main parameter to be assessed will be the concentration of toxic exhaust components, measured using remote sensing methods. In addition, the proposed diagnostic line can be supplemented with additional remote measurement systems, such as, for example, systems for assessing the condition of vehicle lighting, loads on individual axles and individual wheels of the vehicle, tire pressure, thermal load of the brake system, as well as a system for detecting leaks of fluids from the vehicle. Based on the carried out work, it has been shown that using the current specialist knowledge and the components of measurement systems available on the market, it is possible to develop an innovative diagnostic line using remote measurement methods.

W artykule opisano nowe zasady oceny wytrzymałości betonu na podstawie badań metodami nieniszczącymi. Zasady te, określone w normie PN-EN 13791, są odmienne od dotychczas stosowanych według PN-B. Niemniej jednak możliwe jest dalsze stosowanie krzywych korelacji wykorzystywanych w dotychczasowej praktyce budowlanej. Za tym przemawiają małe różnice w wartościach wytrzymałości betonu określanych według PN-EN i PN-B.

The article describes new rules for assessing the strength of concrete based on non-destructive testing. These rules, specified in the PN-EN 13791 standard, are different from those previously used according to PN-B. Nevertheless, it is possible to continue to apply the correlation curves used in the current construction practice. This is supported by small differences in the values of concrete strength, determined according to PN-EN and PN-B.

Kiła wrodzona jest wielonarządową chorobą będącą następstwem zakażenia płodu krętkiem bladym, czy to wskutek transmisji przez łożysko, czy też kontaktu ze zmianą pierwotną w czasie porodu. Ryzyko zakażenia płodu jest tym wyższe, im świeższa jest infekcja u matki. Nieleczona kiła u kobiety ciężarnej może skutkować groźnymi powikłaniami, takimi jak: poród przedwczesny, obrzęk uogólniony płodu, a nawet zgon wewnątrzmaciczny. Dlatego też niezmiernie ważna jest diagnostyka prenatalna, w tym stosowanie testów przesiewowych, a nade wszystko prawidłowa ich interpretacja, co w pewnych sytuacjach może stwarzać spore trudności.

Congenital syphilis is a multiorgan disease caused by Treponema pallidum transmitted in utero via placenta or during labour, through contact with primary lesion. The risk of fetal infection is the highest in the early phase of maternal infection. Untreated syphilis in a pregnant woman may result in serious complications such as preterm delivery, hydrops fetalis and even stillbirth. Therefore extremely important is prenatal diagnostics, including the use of screening tests, and, above all, their correct interpretation, which in some situations may pose considerable difficulties.

Along with the development of modern science, medical knowledge and therapy become more and more precise and personal as a consequence. Genetics and immunology participate in the progress in particular. They open the way to molecular knowledge, allowing precise interpretation of pathology in individual cases followed by finding proper therapy. However, the large-scale improvement of medical efficacy seems to be achieved with the development of screening tests that, being not invasive and cheap, may allow for personal repeatable use and early revealing of threatening diseases.

A method is presented for the comparative testing of wear resistance of ceramic coatings made from materials potentially feasible in tribo – medical applications, mainly orthopaedic implants made from ceramics coated metals for low cost, long life and low wear particle emission into the body. The method was devised as the main tool for use in research and is comprised of flat on flat and ball on flat surface (sliding) tests. Seven ceramic coatings were chosen as potentially feasible for the application area known to perform well in low viscosity fluid lubrication condition. The materials used in coatings were diamond like carbon (DLC), diamond like carbon with tungsten additive (DLC-W), titanium nitride (TiN), titanium carbide (TiC), silicon carbide (SiC), chromium nitride (CrN), carbon nitride (CNx). The coatings tested were deposited in vacuum to a stainless steel substrate with the use of several methods, each suited to the coating material; The methods were the following: cathode arc evaporation (ARC), magnetron sputtering (MAG), plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition (PACVD), impulse reactive magnetron sputtering (IRMS) and a combined method ARC-MAG-RF-PACVD (radio frequency assisted – RF); A multiple role PT-3 tribometer was used for flat on flat surface tests (ring shaped surface) and a reciprocating linear motion TPZ-1 tribometer for ball on flat surface tests and a CSEM REVETESTŽ Scratch Tester to perform standard scratch test in air on coatings. A set of results was obtained illustrating the limiting load for each coating (the load inflicting rapid destruction of the coating) and the endurance under light loading conditions. As lubricating agents distilled water and saline water solution were used. Test results examples are presented and discussed as an illustration of the method’s usability for the target application area.
