The present paper is the first part of the wide problems connected with formulation of clear methods of calculation of parameters of a hydraulic jump that is formed in a trapezoid stilling basin of a stage of fall. It is also presented hydraulic analysis that proves that there are such practical conditions where some trapezoid stilling basins might be treated as rectangular ones. They are presented the results of theoretical solutions of non-dimensional equations of both hydraulic jump and energy in a trapezoid channel that are then used in iterative way for calculation of conjugate depths of a hydraulic jump. They were also given explicit equations being approximate solutions within the range fixed by input data. These approximate solutions enable direct calculation of conjugate depths. As well they are presented some empirical expressions being the effect of model investigations of stage of fall in a trapezoid channel that were carried out by A. Kisiel in 1987. The expressions make it possible to calculate velocity coefficient, the second conjugate depth and the length of hydraulic jump in a trapezoid stilling basin. Finally the shapes of stage of falls in trapezoid channels are recomended for engineering practice.
