W warunkach nasilającej się konkurencji, zarówno na rynku krajowym, jak i rynkach zagranicznych, polskie przedsiębiorstwa transportu drogowego są zmuszone do podejmowania zintensyfikowanej aktywności na rzecz budowania swojej pozycji konkurencyjnej. Jest ona niewątpliwie uzależniona od działań podmiotów konkurujących, jest też wyznaczana w oparciu o warunki instytucjonalne poszczególnych rynków - na te czynniki przedsiębiorstwo transportowe nie ma bezpośredniego wpływu. Jednakże istnieje sfera działań pozwalających na uzyskanie przewag konkurencyjnych, a tym samym lepszej pozycji na rynku, która leży w gestii samych podmiotów. Poszczególne przedsiębiorstwa transportu drogowego, poszukując zadowalającej pozycji konkurencyjnej na rynku, powinny skupić się na kompleksowym kształtowaniu parametrów swojej działalności, które znajdują się w polu decyzyjnym owych podmiotów. Jedną z koncepcji, pozwalającą właśnie na kompleksową analizę atrybutów sukcesu współczesnych przedsiębiorstw jest rozważanie ich witalności, jako podstawy realizacji zamierzeń strategicznych i generowania adekwatnych zachowań rynkowych. Perspektywa witalnościowa kształtowania pozycji konkurencyjnej polskich przedsiębiorstw transportu drogowego stała się przedmiotem rozważań niniejszego opracowania.

Under the conditions of rising competition, both on the polish and international markets, polish road transport enterprises are forced to intensify their efforts concerning the creation of a competitive position. The competitive position is dependent on the activities of competitors as well as the institutional factors of particular markets. Those are the conditions which are exogenous for the enterprise. However, there is a spectrum of activities which allow to increase the competitive position while being feasible for the transport enterprise. Particular transport companies seeking a better market position through the desire to achieve competitive advantage should focus on a complex formation of their activity parameters which are within their decisional field. Vitality of an enterprise is the basis of its ability to fulfill its strategic goals and generate adequate market behavior. The research of vitality understood in such way is one of the concepts allowing the complex analysis of the success attributes of modern enterprises.
