Zamki i ruiny historyczne zamków są niewątpliwym świadectwem współdziałania człowieka z przyrodą. Wartość zabytkową podkreśla ich malowniczość, która jednocześnie wskazuje na dużą atrakcyjność krajobrazu kulturowego. Dawne relacje przestrzenne budowały tożsamość lokalną i regionalną - stare trakty komunikacyjne łączące znaczniki w postaci wież zamków i kościołów dawały poczucie bezpieczeństwa ówczesnym podróżnym, były wyróżnikami zunifikowanego krajobrazu. Jednocześnie dalekie kilku- i kilkunastokilometrowe otwarcia widokowe z zamku wychodzące daleko w krajobraz otaczający, poza granice wzniesienia/obszaru, na którym zlokalizowano sam zamek, miały charakter regionalny, zapewniały bezpieczeństwo i kontrolę, dając wgląd w dalekie relacje przestrzenne, wynikające z historycznych zależności politycznych, relacji gospodarczych, społecznych i komunikacyjnych. W artykule wskazano możliwości i konieczne analizy w celu ochrony widoku, panoram czy dalekiej ekspozycji zabytkowych zamków, ruin zamkowych i ich otoczenia.

Castles and historical ruins of castles are undoubted evidence of the interaction between man and nature. Their historic value is emphasized by their picturesqueness, which at the same time indicates the great attractiveness of the cultural landscape. Old spatial relations built local and regional identity - old communication routes connecting markers in the form of castle and church towers gave a sense of security to travelers of that time and were distinguishing features of a unified landscape. At the same time, long-distance viewing openings from the castle, several or several kilometers long, extending far into the surrounding landscape, beyond the boundaries of the hill/area where the castle itself was located, were of a regional nature, ensured security and control, giving insight into long-range spatial relations resulting from historical political dependencies, economic, social and communication relations. The article indicates the possibilities and necessary analyzes to protect the view, panoramas and long-distance exposure of historic castles, castle ruins and their surroundings.

Ruins are representative of European values and illustrative of European history and heritage and our aim should be to raise awareness of this heritage in order to create a stronger identification with Europe and a further European integration as well. While people are living in and around World Heritage sites, their role in heritage processes and management has changed considerably. Nowadays we must connect the conservation goals with the objective of smart, inclusive and sustainable growth. Local communities must be encouraged to use their local cultural assets as a springboard through a process whereby local actors, are encouraged to assume an active stewardship over the heritage and are empowered develop that heritage in a responsible, profitable and sustainable manner. In their evocative and fascinating image, ruins must be returned to the contemporary life from which they often appear, instead, dramatically separated. Interventions on ruins appear difficult and risky, on the boundary line between archaeological and architectural restoration. The contemporary architectural interventions on the ruin oscillate from conservation to reintegration, up to the absolute extremism consisting in the reconstruction, considered acceptable and suitable only if based on the contemporary design that, from the knowledge of the history, leads to a creative and modern form and image of the architectural work.

Ruiny symbolizują europejskie wartości i ilustrują europejską historię i dziedzictwo, a naszym celem powinno być podniesienie świadomości tego dziedzictwa, aby stworzyć silniejszą identyfikację z Europą i dalszą integrację europejską. Chociaż ludzie zamieszkują miejsca Światowego Dziedzictwa i ich okolice, ich rola w procesach dziedzictwa i zarządzaniu nim znacznie się zmieniła. Obecnie musimy połączyć cele ochrony z celem inteligentnego i zrównoważonego rozwoju sprzyjającego włączeniu społecznemu. Społeczności lokalne należy zachęcać do wykorzystywania lokalnych dóbr kultury jako punktu wyjścia w procesie, w którym podmioty lokalne są zachęcane do aktywnego zarządzania dziedzictwem i mają możliwość rozwijania tego dziedzictwa w odpowiedzialny, rentowny i zrównoważony sposób. W swoim wyrazistym i fascynującym obrazie ruiny muszą powrócić do współczesnego życia, od którego często są dramatycznie oddzielone. Interwencje na ruinach wydają się trudne i ryzykowne, na granicy między konserwacją archeologiczną a architektoniczną. Współczesne interwencje architektoniczne na ruinach oscylują od konserwacji do reintegracji, aż do absolutnego ekstremizmu polegającego na rekonstrukcji, uznawanej za dopuszczalną i właściwą tylko wtedy, gdy opiera się na współczesnym projekcie, który ze znajomości historii prowadzi do twórczej i nowoczesnej formy i obrazu dzieła architektonicznego.

From the doctrinal take, ruin is perceived as a full-fledged historical monument representing autonomous values. Highly polemic against the doctrine and theory is the practice expressed in concrete interventions in the substance and surroundings of a historical monument. It can thus be stated that the entire post-war period was one of affirmation and praise of the Rebuilding/Reconstruction/Restoration project. The Rebuild slogan has taken root as a positive and creative idea. In order to implement the doctrinal concept of the protection of ruins, there is a purpose behind restoring the social skill of perceiving the beauty of historical ruins as signs in the landscape. And, there is a purpose in educating the community in terms of to what extent ruins, without a useful function of their own, may be useful or useable anyway – as a regional attraction, a imagination-inspiring magnet attracting tourists. This poses a considerable challenge to experts in cultural goods protection: not only should they demonstrate an in-depth recognition of restoration/conservation doctrines but also render themselves acquainted with information, educational, and negotiation techniques – in order to contribute to the decisions regarding the lot of historical monuments, historical ruins in particular.

W ujęciu doktrynalnym ruina jest postrzegana jako pełnoprawny zabytek, o autonomicznych wartościach. Natomiast charakter wysoce polemiczny z doktryną i teorią ma praktyka wyrażająca się w konkretnych ingerencjach w substancję zabytkową i otoczenie zabytku. Można powiedzieć, że cały okres powojenny, to okres afirmacji, pochwały odbudowy. Hasło odbudowy zakorzeniło się, jako pozytywne i twórcze. Dla realizacji koncepcji doktrynalnej ochrony ruin celowe jest przywrócenie społecznej umiejętności postrzegania piękna ruin historycznych, jako znaków w krajobrazie. Celowe jest edukowanie społeczności na ile ruiny bez własnej funkcji użytkowej mogą być jednak użyteczne, jako atrakcja regionalna, magnes przyciągający turystów i budzący wyobraźnię. To duże wyzwanie dla specjalistów z zakresu ochrony dóbr kultury, którzy nie tylko powinni dogłębnie poznawać doktryny konserwatorskie, rozumieć istotę zabytku, ale także zaznajamiać się z technikami informacyjnymi, edukacyjnymi i negocjacyjnymi, by móc mieć wpływ na podejmowane decyzje o losach kolejnych zabytków, w tym szczególnie ruin historycznych.
