Multi-Criteria Analysis and Design Ideas of Green Façade Systems as Eco-Friendly Architectural Solutions

The article discusses current trends in designing green and eco-friendly façades of buildings of different functions in Poland and around the world. Information collected on completed façade projects, associated research and conclusions formulated on the basis thereof, indicate trends and possibilities for the use of contemporary material solutions and technologies in designing various forms of vertical 'greenery’ which support sustainable development of urban areas. The main objective of the research was to identify the most important features of green façades as eco-friendly architectural solutions. A case study with descriptions of the features and qualitative elements of 100 of the most architecturally interesting buildings with characteristic external wall structures was constructed for research purposes. The sites selected for the case study represent a review of global trends. The data was then used for a multi-criteria analysis of green façade systems from the perspective of eco-friendly architectural solutions. The conducted research, analyses and discussions on solutions already in place were then implemented as guidelines for innovative architectural design solutions, which were presented at the Faculty of Architecture at Poznań University of Technology in the form of selected diagrams and student visualisations. These comprised highly aesthetic compositions, possible to implement in the near future.

Autoklawizowany beton komórkowy jest materiałem przyjaznym środowisku. Jednak wymogi współczesnego świata, a przede wszystkim troska o przyszłość, wymusza poszukiwanie nowych rozwiązań minimalizujących negatywne skutki środowiskowe. W pracy przedstawiono wybrane rozwiązania wykorzystania w technologii autoklawizowanego betonu komórkowego materiałów odpadowych i ubocznych produktów z innych technologii, z uwzględnieniem potencjalnych zagrożeń i ograniczeń. Zwrócono również uwagę na zagospodarowanie odpadu z betonu komórkowego w innych technologiach, przede wszystkim jako substytutu cementu lub dodatku do betonu. Praca ma ze względu na swoją objętość wybiórczy zakres, jednak głównym jej celem jest przedstawienie trendów i kierunków poszukiwań nowych rozwiązań materiałowych, w tej technologii.

Autoclaved aerated concrete is an environmentally friendly material. However, the demands of the modern world and, above all, care for the future, necessitate the search for new solutions to minimise negative environmental effects. This paper presents selected solutions for the use of waste materials and by-products from other techniques in autoclaved aerated concrete production, taking into account potential risks and limitations. Attention was also drawn to the use of aerated concrete waste in other methods, primarily as a cement substitute, or concrete additive. The paper is selective in nature due to its volume, but the main purpose is to present trends and directions in the search for new material solutions in this technology.

Planowany stopień wodny Siarzewo łączy potrzeby rozwoju gospodarczego z właściwymi działaniami kompensującymi potencjalnie negatywne oddziaływania na środowisko. Pracom przygotowawczym towarzyszą jednak kontrowersje i spory, a główną ich przyczyną, jak się wydaje, jest dezinformacja. W efekcie planowanemu przedsięwzięciu stawiane są zarzuty, które mijają się z prawdą. Opierają się one głównie na domniemaniach i negatywnych stereotypach, które nie mają odzwierciedlenia w proponowanych rozwiązaniach. Artykuł w obszerny sposób omawia cel projektowanego stopnia, przyjęte założenia techniczne, przedstawia potencjalne oddziaływania na środowisko oraz rozwiązania ograniczające te oddziaływania, a także rozwiązania służące środowisku przyrodniczemu, w tym kompensacje. Omawia także szeroki zakres badań zrealizowanych na potrzeby przygotowania inwestycji.

The planned Siarzewo dam combines the economic development needs with the appropriate action compensating its potentially negative environmental impact. However, the preparatory works gave rise to controversies and disputes, the main source of which seems to be disinformation. Therefore the planned venture is faced with untrue charges. They are mainly based on presumptions and negative stereotypes which do not find confirmation in the proposed solutions. The article extensively discusses the goal of the planned dam and the adopted technical solutions, presents the potential environmental impact and solutions that mitigate it, as well as solutions to preserve the natural environment, including compensations. It also presents the wide scope of research carried out for the purposes of the investment preparation.
