This overview presents a comprehensive exploration of the research methodsemployed for the precise assessment of volume fraction and the detailedcharacterisation of the size, shape and distribution of γ' phase precipitates withinNi-based superalloys. These advanced materials exhibit exceptional mechanicalproperties due to the presence of γ' precipitates. The accurate quantification ofprecipitate parameters is crucial for understanding material behaviour and forthe optimisation of alloy design. In this overview, a spectrum of techniques, including microscopy (SEM, TEM), diffraction (XRD), spectroscopy (EDS, EELS)and advanced imaging (3D-APT, STEM-HAADF, FIB-SEM) is discussed. Strengths, limitations and potential synergies among these methods are highlighted, offeringresearchers a comprehensive toolbox to advance their investigations of γ' phaseprecipitates in Ni-based superalloys.

Dimension-stone quarrying optimization is significantly important to increase the recovery ratio of dimension stone and to reduce the cutting cost. Due to fracture-existed rock mass, in the mining operation block size and mining direction influences to the recovery ratio and the cutting cost. Therefore, the paper suggests the quarrying optimization for dimension stone to obtain the highest recovery ratio and the lowest cutting cost, based on optimizing block size and mining direction to get a cutting grid of dimension stone. Through developing an integrated modelling between joint set modelling and cutting grid modelling, intact blocks and fractured blocks were generated. From this, block statistics were conducted to get the maximum recovery ratio of dimension stone and the minimum cutting rate between the cutting area and the recovered block volume, which helps to choose an optimizing block size and mining direction. The research was carried out at Tan Long dimension stone quarry where a block size (0.9m x 0.6m x 1.35m) and a mining direction paralleling to joint set 1 will ensure the highest recovery ratio of 13.87% and the lowest cutting rate of 25 m2/m3.

We investigated morphological variation and sexual dimorphism in two species of syntopic cave crickets (Troglophilus neglectus and T. cavicola) from Northern Balkans. T. cavicola is able to penetrate deeper in caves and stays there for longer periods than T. neglectus. Yet, it has not exhibited clearly stronger constructive (body size, elongation of appendages, increased spinulation) or reductive (eye reduction) traits than T. neglectus. Moreover, contrary to expectation, there is no clear association between more prolonged staying in a stable cave environment and overall lower morphological variability in T. cavicola. Only some of its morphological traits actually showed less while other showed more variation than in T. neglectus. While T. cavicola males are larger than females, there is no such difference in T. neglectus. This may help males of T. cavicola being more competitive towards overall larger T. neglectus. With the exception of the body size, overall sexual dimorphism was better expressed in larger T. neglectus. The morphospaces occupied by males and females overlap more strongly in T. cavicola than in T. neglectus, indicating that ecological niches of both sexes are better separated in the latter species.

The principles of shaping heads in reinforced concrete ceilings and the rules of punching shear design of flat slabs with column heads are discussed. The differences in punching shear design, affected by size and shape of the heads, are presented. The modifications introduced in the German edition of Eurocode 2 are also discussed. A working example is considered, which covers two types of the ceiling - a flat slab of uniform thickness and a flat slabs with column heads.

The Shotori Range of east-central Iran (east of Tabas) has yielded Famennian ammonoid assemblages dominated by the family Sporadoceratidae. Four genera Maeneceras Hyatt, 1884, Iranoceras Walliser, 1966, Sporadoceras Hyatt, 1884 and Erfoudites Korn, 1999 are represented. The conodont assemblage of one sample containing Iranoceras revealed an Upper marginifera Zone age. The ammonoid assemblages are characterised by comparatively large specimens; they reach conch diameters of 300 mm (including the body chamber) and the mean size is larger than 100 mm. The preservation of the material from the Shotori Range and size comparison with sporadoceratid assemblages from the Anti-Atlas of Morocco and the Rhenish Mountains of Germany suggest that hydraulic sorting has resulted in a bias towards large conchs, explaining the size distribution, rather than latitudinal differences. The new species Maeneceras tabasense is described; the genus Iranoceras is revised with a new description of the two species Iranoceras pachydiscus (Walliser, 1966) and Iranoceras pingue (Walliser, 1966).

The methods currently used to assess orchard infestation are timeconsuming and do not take into account non-adult forms of mites, due to their small size. Advance in digital imaging technology, however, has resulted in the discovery of a more viable method to enable a fast and reliable assessment of orchard infestation. Digital images of infected apple leaves were made and examined for the presence of European red mites and two-spotted spider mites. As well as adult mites, non-adult European red mite forms were also encountered. After extracting all objects considered as mites from the image, imaging software was then used to assess their dimension and shape parameters. Length, width, area, and equivalent diameter were different for all three observed mite groups: adult female European red mites, possible non-adult European red mites and adult two-spotted spider mites. Differences in circularity and elongation were found in adult two-spotted spider mites and various forms of European red mites, while the perimeter was similar in adult European red mites and twospotted spider mites, and different in the non-adult forms of European red mites. However, as the ranges of 95% prediction intervals for these features overlap, a combination of at least two features as well as employing statistical procedures may greatly increase the probability of appropriate classification of the observed objects as different mites.

Content available remote Clutch size variation in agile frog Rana dalmatica on post-mining areas
EN
Clutch size is an important life history trait in amphibians, and it varies among and within species, populations and individuals. Within a population, its variation has been attributed to a positive relationship between females’ age or size and their fecundity as well as to spatio-temporal differences in environmental conditions. Therefore, clutch size has been shown to be both spatially and seasonally variable. We examined spatial and seasonal clutch size variation based upon two years of study involving 160 clutches of the Agile Frog Rana dalmatina Bonaparte, 1840 in 14 ponds within one spoil bank in the Czech Republic’s North Bohemian brown coal basin. The overall mean clutch size was 1295 (SD 596), which is one of the largest that has been reported. However, both clutch size and its variance differed considerably between the years. Clutch size also varied among the ponds. We found no relationship between clutch size and the distance of a breeding pond from alluvial forest, a typical wintering habitat. Despite existence at the site of many suitable reproduction habitats, the spoil bank does not offer the complex of all habitats needed for persistence of the R. dalmatina population. To protect that population, it is necessary to preserve not only breeding ponds on the spoil bank but also alluvial forest and, most importantly, the connectivity between these two crucial habitats.

Content available remote Strength of wet spliced denim yarns after sizing using a central composite design
EN
The retained strength of wet spliced yarns can be controlled to some extent by suitable choices of certain factors related to the process. In order to understand how these variables influence the breaking force of wet spliced yarns, a central composite design was formulated and three variables - yarn count, the duration of air joining and the duration of water joining - were considered. Analysis of the results indicates that yarn count and length of splice contribute significantly to this mechanical property of wet sized spliced yarns. The duration of water joining, the duration of air joining of splice and the recipe size have a considerable effects.

Content available remote Evaluation of the weavability of sized cotton warps
EN
In weaving, a warp must withstand repeated stretching, caused by shedding and beat-up. It is also subjected to abrasion, which is mainly due to shedding and reed motion. The yarns are therefore sized. Two important reasons for applying sizes to spun warp yarns are to protect them breaking during weaving and to decrease their hairyness so that the tendency for adjacent warp yarns to entangle will be reduced. In this work, we investigated the weaving performance and physical properties of cotton yarn sized at high pressure squeezing. We studied the size penetration, film properties, and the yarn packing density in order to explain the performance of sized yarn.
