The article presents the possibility of applying artificial intelligence to forecast necessary repairs on ordinary railway switches. Railway switch data from Katowice and Katowice Szopienice Północne Stations were used to model neural structures. Using the prepared data set (changes in values of nominal dimensions in characteristic sections of 15 railway switches), we created three variants of railway switch classifications. Then, with the results, we determined the values of classifiers and the low mean absolute error, as well as compared charts of effectivity. It was calculated that the best solution by which to evaluate necessary repairs in railway switches was, in part, to repair the crossing nose. It was assessed that a structure with single output data was more effective for the accepted data.

The article presents the effect of cold-rolling welded joints in railway lines on their mechanical and tribological properties. Welded joints of high-manganese Hadfield cast steel (L120G13) and normalized rail steel (R350HT) with austenitic steel coupling (X12CrNi17-7) were tested. The conducted tests allowed the hardness profile of the treated surfaces to be studied, as well as the wear resistance and coefficient of friction. The results were compared to the base materials and exhibited hardness enhancement in 80% of cold-rolled surfaces and, moreover, reduced abrasive wear resistance.

W pracy przeprowadzono analizę wpływu umocnienia statycznego metodą nagniatania naporowo-tocznego na własności mechaniczne oraz tribologiczne złącza zgrzewanego staliwa Hadfilda L120G13 ze stalą szynową R350HT nieulepszoną cieplnie z wykorzystaniem przekładki ze stali austenitycznej X12CrNi17-7. Wyniki badań pozwoliły na określenie rozkładu twardości, wskaźnika zużycia objętościowego oraz współczynnika tarcia. Testy przeprowadzono na próbkach przed i po umacnianiu statycznym. Testy wykazały zwiększenie twardości umacnianych powierzchni nawet o 80% oraz odporności na zużycie ścierne badanych materiałów.

Purpose: The analyse of pearlite morphology changes as a result of hot rolling process and isothermal annealing. Design/methodology/approach: Physical modelling of isothermal annealing for a transition point of 520-620°C was carried out using a Gleeble simulator. A scanning electron microscope was used for a quantitative evaluation of the microstructure. Findings: The obtained test results confirm that these methods can be effectively used in shaping the pearlitic structure and properties of the steel. During numerical simulation of a ride of a rail-vehicle through a switch, the load acting on a block section being part of the vehicle structure was determined. The load values were used in simulation of the resistance to abrasive wear, which was carried out in physical simulation. Practical implications: In physical modelling of tests of resistance to abrasive wear for the steel grade R260 after hot rolling and isothermal annealing it has been proved that this feature is a function of the steel structure and properties in the given operation conditions (load and slide magnitude). Abrasive wear of the rail steel is the more intensive, the larger the load at a constant slide is. Originality/value: An advantageous pearlitic morphology of steel (block sections) with interlamellar distance in the order of 0.12-0.13 μm, ensuring hardness of about 340-350 HB, is facilitated by a hot rolling process combined with isothermal annealing.
