Rozbudowa II linii potrwa do 2023 r. Całość ma Uczyć 23 km i 21 stacji - tyle samo ile liczy linia, której budowę zakończono 2008 r. We wrześniu 2019 r. do odcinka centralnego II linii o długości 6,1 km dołączył kolejny - wschodni północny - o długości 3,2 km.

Głównym celem projektantów nowej linii metra w Budapeszcie było połączenie południowo-zachodniej z północno-wschodnią częścią miasta. Według badań, miasto wielkości Budapesztu powinno mieć bowiem 3 razy większą sieć połączeń niż ma obecnie.

A new subway line in Budapest designers’ main goal was to join southwestern part of the city with its northeastern part. According to the research, a city of a size of Budapest should have 3 times bigger communication network as it now has. Adapting M4 line to the existing communication network and opportunities which it created allowed to reorganize public .transport in districts where it runs. Additional subway line was also to strengthen direct connections with M2 and M3 lines.

The construction of an underground railway system is a very demanding building investment. It requires great concentration of a building potential over an exceptionally vast area. On the one hand, the building site covers a vast densely built-up urban area and on the other, a tunnel is actually excavated over a small space covered by its "front" and interior. The above conditions are extraordinary both because of the technical difficulties of the works to be carried out and high precision required by individual construction elements. Another problem is the disturbance of geotechnical stability of the ground and the ensuing dangers posed for the adjacent buildings. The paper presents all basic elements of geodetic activities connected with the underground construction, from the designing stage up to construction works.
