W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań nad stopniem rozdrobnienia pelletów w suszarkach bębnowych. Wyznaczono współczynnik wytrzymałości dla trzech rodzajów pelletów drzewnych. Wyniki uzyskane w aparacie bębnowym porównano z wynikami otrzymanymi zgodnie z normą EN 15210-1:2009 (E). Rozpad pelletów nie przekroczył 2,5% (dopuszczalnej granicy). Dodatkowo dla każdego materiału ustalono optymalne prędkości pracy suszarki bębnowej - początek i koniec kataraktowania.

The article consist information about pellets shredding in rotary dryer. The aim of this research was determine of the mechanical durability for three different woods pellets. The experimental results for the rotary drums were compared with results were carried out with EN 15210-1:2009 (E) norm. In article was determined ranging of characteristic velocity for the rotary dryer. The disintegration of the pellets is less than 2.5% (permissible limit). In addition, for each material the optimal velocity - start and finally of cataracting, was determined.

The article presents rational principles for improving the structure of a flax heap drier. As a result of tests which were carried out, we established that the counter-flow rotary dryer SKM-1 is the most perspective for drying flax heap. For effective drying of the flax heap fine fraction the second rotating screen above the loaded layer of flax heap is suggested in the SKM-1 dryer. Consequently, the drying agent processed on the bottom screen is used for preliminary drying and removal of surface moisture of the material loaded on the top screen. For the purpose of maintaining the uniform drying of the material it is recommended to carry out loosening and hashing during the drying process with the help of the loosening device, established as the Vshaped device on the discharge unit on the way to a mill. The preliminary heating of the flax heap on the top screen essentially accelerates drying and allows the increase of the dryer performance and can minimize energy requirement for drying. The correctly selected modes of the drying process provide favorable conditions for ripening flax seed, avoid damage of drying material and improve its sowing quality.

W artykule zamieszczono racjonalne zasady doskonalenia konstrukcji suszarni do suszenia lnianej masy omłotowej. W rezultacie przeprowadzonych badań ustalono, że najbardziej perspektywiczną, z punktu widzenia suszenia lnianej masy omłotowej, jest suszarnia karuzelowa SKM-1. Celem poprawy efektywności suszenia drobnej frakcji lnianej masy omłotowej proponuje się w suszarni SKM-1 montaż drugiego obrotowego kosza sitowego nad dotychczasowym (powyżej zasypywanej warstwy masy lnianej). W rezultacie czego przepracowany na dolnym sicie czynnik suszący wykorzystywany jest do wstępnego podgrzewania i usuwania wilgoci powierzchniowej, zasypywanego na górny kosz sitowy materiału. W celu zapewnienia równomiernego suszenia materiału zaleca się jego spulchnianie i mieszanie w procesie suszenia za pomocą spulchniacza wyrównywacza, ustawionego w postaci klinowej osłony na elemencie wyładowczym. Wstępne podgrzewanie lnianej masy omłotowej na górnym koszu sitowym istotnie przyspiesza jej dosuszanie, pozwala zwiększyć wydajność suszenia i ograniczyć nakłady energetyczne na dosuszanie. Prawidłowo dobrane parametry suszenia zapewniają dobre warunki dosuszania nasion lnu, ograniczając ich uszkadzanie, zwiększając ich właściwości siewne.

Suszarki bębnowe często posiadają listwy wynoszące wypełnienie, co pozytywnie wpływa na intensywność procesu usuwania wilgoci, także przy niskich prędkościach obrotowych. Zastosowanie przegród zaburzających ruch powoduje cykliczne rozluźnienie złoża. Określono ruch wypełnienia w aparacie bębnowym zaopatrzonym w jedną, dwie lub trzy listwy wynoszące. Największy stopień rozluźnienia złoża występował przy prędkości 50 obr/min niezależnie od liczby zastosowanych przegród. Zastosowanie trzech przegród zaburzających pozwoliło uzyskać zadowalający stopień rozluźnienia złoża przy niższych prędkościach.

Drum dryers are often equipped with floating laths. This affects the intensity of drying process even at low rotational speed. The use of disrupting laths causes a cyclic relaxation of the bed. The study focused on the identification of bed movement in a drum dryer provided with one, two or three floating laths. The highest degree of bed relaxation occurred for 50 rpm. In the case of three laths a good relaxation of the bed was observed at lower rotational speed.

A radioisotope tracer study was carried-out in a pilot scale indirectly heated rotary dryer to measure residence time distribution (RTD) of sand particles. Lanthanum-140 labeled sand was used as a tracer. Mean residence time (MRT) and variance of the tracer distribution curves were calculated from the measured RTD curves. From the calculated MRTs, solid holdup in the dryer was estimated. The qualitative comparison of the dimensionless variance with the data published in the literature led to the conclusion that the rotary dryer behaves as a plug flow system. The results of the study were used to design a full-scale industrial rotary dryer.
