Problems of risk management and insurance of machines working in the brown coal mines are discussed in the paper. Risk management processes normally contain four steps i.e. risks identification, estimation and analysis of risks, controlling of risks and financing of risks. Risks which are impossible to avoid must be transferred to the insurance company and insured. Classification of the accidents in the brown coal mines are presented and examples of the chosen accidents shortly discussed. Insurance systems of machines working in the brown coal mines were shown and discussed.
