This paper describes effect of modernization of an old industrial IRb6-type robot control system. The old original programmer of the robot used analog techniques. It occupied a lot of space and was very energy-consuming. This equipment was completely replaced by the new digital controller, taking advance of the high technology. The new controller utilizes modern DC-DC converter composed of efficient MOSFET-type transistors and consist a fast, versatile AVR-family microprocessor. The renewed robot is controlled with the aid of personal computer with a supervisory software, that allow make a project of motion-sequence of the robot. Detailed hardware and software description in this paper is presented.

Nowy sterownik dodatkowo umożliwia sterowanie robotem IRb-6 z komputera PC poprzez RS-232C. Zmodernizowany mikroprocesorowy sterownik robota IRb-6 spełnia wszystkie funkcje sterownika oryginalnego. Dodatkowo umożliwia sterowanie robotem z komputera PC poprzez łącze szeregowe RS-232C, zatem pozwala na stosowanie złożonych algorytmów sterowania dostepnych, np. w pakiecie MATLAB, oraz przechowywanie w komputerze PC programów już sprawdzonych.

This paper presents a developed microprocessor-based controller for the IRb-6 robot. The new controller in addition it enables PC-based control of the robot through serial port RS-232C.
