Autorka podejmuje temat aktualnego kierunku rozwoju miast poprzemysłowych w Europie, w którym elementy wodne o rodowodzie przemysłowym odgrywają znaczącą rolę. Na przykładzie wybranych „miast – analogii” przedstawia kontrast zestawianych ze sobą europejskich miast poprzemysłowych z polskimi realiami poprzemysłowych przestrzeni śródmiejskich, a także wartość i potencjał ukryty w zdegradowanych poprzemysłowych sieciach wodnych, w tkance śródmieść postindustrialnych miast.

The author writes about the current direction of development of the post-industrial cities in Europe, where water features of industrial origin play a significant role. Using the example of some "analogy cities" she shows the contrast that is visible after comparing them with Polish realities of post-industrial downtown areas. The author also presents the value and the potential hidden in degraded post-industrial water networks, in the building stock of downtown areas in post-industrial cities.

W artykule przedstawiono kierunki regeneracji urbanistycznej historycznego obszaru brzegu rzeki Douro w mieście Porto w Portugalii. Wytyczne stworzono z uwzględnieniem strategii zrównoważonego rozwoju. Scharakteryzowano miasto Porto, jego walory kulturowe, turystyczne i gospodarcze wraz z rysem historycznym. Wskazano planowane kierunki rozwoju uwzględniające w szczególności potencjał, jaki niesie ze sobą wzajemne oddziaływanie rzeki i miasta. Streszczono zatwierdzone do realizacji przez Urząd Miejski Porto rozwiązania dotyczące przywrócenia wartości istniejącej historycznej zabudowy i przestrzeni publicznych brzegu rzeki Douro oraz wskazano korzyści wynikające z ewentualnego ich wprowadzenia.

The paper presents the directions of urban and social regeneration of Porto’s riverfront. The city of Porto has been characterized with its cultural, touristic and economic values. The regeneration strategy have been developed taking into account the sustainable development strategy and rich cultural and historical value of the district. Its main hoal is to recover the link of the city with the river Douro, propose measures to improve the landscape and the bond which has always existed between the two banks. The paper summarizes approved for implementation by the City Council of Porto solutions for restoring the existing historic buildings and public spaces included in Porto riverfront district. Paper identifies potential benefits of their introduction.

Key position of the Vistula in the ecological system of Poland potentially makes it possible to form an “ecological corridor” of this country, connected with the natural macro-system of Europe. The possible use of the Middle Vistula and its meridional connection with Kaliningrad region as well as Belarus and Ukraine territories concerns the rivers : Warthe, Notec Vistula, Narew and Bug Realization of functional connections between neighbouring territories will stimulate development of their economy and culture and make it possible to demonstrate their natural merits. Ecological and economical aspects of transport based on inland waterways make it necessary to formulate criteria for architectural objects to be created on waterfront areas (with taking into consideration of social, historical and location contexts, local conditions and architectural traditions).
