Research of damage to the rear wheel rim in a tipper-truck

Serious damage to the inner rim of the rear twin wheel in one dump truck was noted during the operation of the fleet performing transport tasks. It was a drive wheel, and its damage occurred while driving with a load exceeding the permissible value. The examination of selected fragments of the damaged rim surface was conducted visually as well as using a digital microscope with a portable head. The measurements of the Vickers hardness and microscopic observations of the material structure of the sample cut along the thickness of the rim disk were carried out. The drive torque loading of the twin wheels of the tipper-truck rear axle, under their mating with different kinds of road roughness and under various vertical loads of the wheels was calculated. An analysis of stress distributions in the rim modelled using the Finite Element Method was also conducted for several possible scenarios of wheel loading. The damage to the rim was caused by simultaneous action of several factors, such as overloading the car, poor condition of the tires, loading the drive wheel by a part of the vehicle weight and the driving torque, and hitting a wheel on a cavity in a dirt road, causing a temporary relief of one of the tires on a twin wheel.

W artykule omówiony został sposób diagnostyki odlewów felgi stosowanej w samochodach osobowych. Celem przeprowadzonych badań było wykonanie diagnostyki felgi z zakresu poprawności: składu chemicznego, właściwości mechanicznych, twardości felgi w określonych obszarach. Głównym celem badawczym była diagnostyka odlewu pod względem obecności nieciągłości odlewniczych metodą radiograficzną. Dodatkowym celem artykułu jest określenie przy pomocy tradycyjnych narzędzi zarządzania jakością, źródeł niezgodności odlewów felg a docelowo zmniejszenie liczby wyrobów niezgodnych lub ich całkowitej eliminacji.

The article discusses the method of diagnosis of wheel castings used in passenger cars. The aim of the conducted tests was to perform a wheel rim diagnostics in the scope of correctness: chemical composition, mechanical properties, wheel rim hardness in specific areas. The main research goal was to diagnose the casting in terms of the presence of casting discontinuities by radiographic method. An additional goal of the article is to determine, by means of traditional quality management tools, sources of incompatibility of castings of rims and ultimately reduce the number of incompatible products or their total elimination. Paper discussed the impact of alcohol on the psychophysical properties of human and its metabolism. Particular attention was paid to the influence of alcohol on driving ability. Praca zawiera wyniki badań eksploatacyjnych trwałości pojazdów szynowych. W badaniach niezawodności eksploatacyjnej uwzględniono kolejowe wagony towarowe, które w okresie zimowym poddawane były procesowi przyspieszonego rozmrażania przewożonego materiału. Analizę eksploatacyjnej trwałości przeprowadzono na podstawie rozkładu Weibulla. W analizie tej uwzględniono te elementy i zespoły kolejowego wagonu towarowego, które w czasie eksploatacji wykazywały, ze względu na określony rodzaj zużycia, najmniejszą niezawodność. W tym przypadku były to obręcze zestawów kołowych. Badania przeprowadzono w aspekcie czasu eksploatacji pojazdu, niezależnie czy wagon był próżny czy ładowny, do momentu wyłączenia wagonu do naprawy awaryjnej. W badaniach eksploatacyjnych tramwaju uwzględniono dobór materiału obręczy i warunków eksploatacji w aspekcie ich wpływu na intensywność zużycia obręczy i jej niezawodność. W podsumowaniu wskazano na holistyczne przyczyny zróżnicowanej trwałości eksploatacyjnej pojazdów szynowych.

The paper contains the results of operational stability of railway vehicles. The study takes into account the operational reliability railway wagons, which during the winter were subjected to a process of accelerated thawing of the material. Analysis of operational sustainability was based on the Weibull distribution. The analysis took into account these elements and assemblies railway freight wagon that showed during operation, due to a certain type of wear, the lowest reliability. In this case, these were the rims wheelset. The study was conducted in the context of the life of the vehicle, whether car was empty or loaded, until the wagon to the emergency repair. The tram service testing included the rim material selection and operating conditions in terms of their impact on the intensity of wear of the rim and its reliability. In summary, the reasons indicated in holistic differentiated service life of rail vehicles.

W artykule przedstawiono informacje dotyczące metod badawczych stosowanych do oceny wytrzymałości zmęczeniowej samochodowych kół jezdnych. Wieloletnie doświadczenia z badań na stanowisku SBK-1, dopuszczających konstrukcje kół różnych producentów na rynek w Polsce, zaowocowały możliwością oceny skuteczności stosowanych na dzień dzisiejszy procedur badawczych. Materiał przedstawia pokrótce podstawowe cechy i własności konstrukcji jaką jest felga, opisuje stosowane procedury badawcze w odniesieniu do oceny wytrzymałości zmęczeniowej oraz poddaje ocenie te procedury z punkty widzenia dynamicznych badań stanowiskowych.

The article presents information concerning research methods which are used to evaluate the fatigue strength of automobile wheels. Many years of experience with the tests on the SBK-1, allowing construction of wheels from different manufacturers on the polish market, resulted in the ability to assess the effectiveness of the present day procedures. Material briefly describes the basic characteristics and properties of the structure which is the rim, also describes the test procedures used for the evaluation of fatigue strength and evaluates these procedures from the point of view of dynamic testing bench.

Forging on Hammer of Rim Forging from Titanium Alloy Ti6Al4V

This paper presents the research results of hammer forging process of a plane wheel rim forging from titanium alloy Ti6Al4V. The research works were divided into two stages. The first concerned the theoretical analysis based on numerical simulations of the worked out forging technology. Distributions of temperature, strain, damage criterion according to Cockroft-Latham, material flow kinematics and force parameters were evaluated. It was stated that the danger of overheating and material cracking in the forging does not exist. Large force values present in the process means that problems with tools durability may appear. Satisfactory results of the theoretical analysis provided the basis for conducting the second stage of the research works, that is experimental tests in industrial conditions. After dies making forging tests were made in one Polish forging plants, in which a product of good quality was obtained. Manufactured forgings were free from cracks, shape faults and fulfilled requirements concerning mechanical properties.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badan procesu kucia na młocie odkuwki felgi koła samolotowego ze stopu tytanu Ti6Al4V. Prace badawcze podzielono na dwa etapy. Pierwszy dotyczył analizy teoretycznej opartej na symulacjach numerycznych opracowanej technologii kucia. Dokonano oceny rozkładu temperatury, odkształcenia, kryterium zniszczenia według Cockrofta-Lathama, kinematyki płynięcia materiału i parametrów siłowych. Stwierdzono, ze nie zachodzi niebezpieczeństwo przegrzania i pękania materiału w odkuwce. Duże wartości sił występujących w procesie świadczą o możliwości występowania problemów z trwałością narzędzi. Pozytywne wyniki analizy teoretycznej dały podstawę do przeprowadzenia drugiego etapu badan tj. prób doświadczalnych w warunkach przemysłowych. Po wykonaniu matryc przeprowadzono próby kucia w jednym z polskich zakładów kuźniczych, w których uzyskano wyrób charakteryzujący się dobra jakością. Wykonane odkuwki pozbawione były pęknięć, wad kształtu i spełniały wymagania odnośnie własności mechanicznych.

An investigation on optimisation of a car rim by elasto-plastic analysis

This paper presents the optimisation of an octopus type car rim in which first critical zones have been found and then optimum thickness has been investigated using an elasto-plastic analysis. In this study, three dimensional finite elements method has been used for conducting elasto-plastic analysis. In the finite element analysis, the elements forming the meshes are hexahedral linear elements with eight nodes. Twelve different meshes were used. A quadrant of rim is exploited due to its symmetric shape. The theoretical results have been compared with experimental ones. It seems that the theoretical results are in agreement with the experimental ones. The results were given in tables, graphics and figures.
