Nowadays, urban processes usually go in a very dynamic and uncontrolled way so a town structure becomes more and more complicated. Contemporary tendencies of towns' development propose reduction of urban sprawl, characteristic for early stages of urbanization, contrary to inward development. The purpose of this development is to transform existing space structures, as for example degraded postindustrial areas and generally these which don't suit present requirements. The role which ports had in creation and functioning of towns was changing for centuries and the main impact on it had technology of transport and trans-shipment. This evolution had three main stages and the last is to adjust port-industrial areas to city functions and to gain new investment spaces. Impressive transformation of docks was started in the 1980s in London when British government established London Docklands Development Corporation. The main purpose of this corporation was to lead and control the development of four areas after its closure: Surrey Docks, Wapping, Isle of Dogs and Royal Docks. The change in the 1980s to residential and consumer developments on the Thames waterfront is exemplified at Hay's Galleria - even the name is suggestive. Hay's Dock has been drained and now serves as an underground car park, while the street formed above it is an elegant shopping arcade. The curved street, which opens out on to the river, has been glazed over in nineteenth-century style.

One of the aspects of third wave civilization is increasing role of international corporation and they influences on temporary city spaces. That sytuation made conflickt between genius loci of site and global society requirements. Temporary city spaces like, for exemple London Docklands, became as mosaic of structures, which existed side by side but not together. Dockland - TOWN IN TOWN - have three basic components: 1. XIX century's form of build upon hold her own typologie and urban plan, 2. Canary Warf - based on american's pattern, 3. Second wave of rewitalization - The Royal Docks area and some completions on The Isle of Dogs (try to keep dialog with character of this site). This area, build of three different structures, ask for future possibility of links but until today we don't have the answer. Heidegger's metaphor of the bridge show that the link („the bridge") made new value of neighbouring structuras („banks") - use this idea - Canary Warf and Royal Docks gives new meaning, new „condition" for old structuras of Docklands. This situation stil giving quastion which way should go the temporary City Planing - is it possible to creation the town without such important element like Time? Is this possible, that is this syndrom of third wave civilization - „quick-build towns" without the patina of time.
