Bezpiecznym, a jednocześnie efektywnym sposobem jest wcześniejsze, przed wystąpieniem pożaru, ustalanie środków, jakie trzeba podjąć w celu przeprowadzenia rewersji lokalnej wraz z możliwymi zagrożeniami wynikającymi z ustalonych działań.

The paper outlines a conceptual design of reversing the ventilation in the longwall region in the conditions of a fully-developed fire, taking into account the risk of methane explosion. In a real mine being a complex system of galleries and workings, reversal of ventilation should be forbidden, unless relevant preparation has been done. A safe and effective method should be selected prior to eventual fire. Risks involved in those measures have to be duly assessed. Numerical simulations may support forecasting of flow in a ventilation of network under the emergency conditions, that is during a fire. For this purpose the VentGraph software system has been used, which is an excellent tool for forecasting the time-variable development of the fire source and its effects on the flow of air and gases. The newly developed option available in VentGraph allowing the diagonal branches to be indicated supports the reversing process and selection of regulators (ventilation door), used to perform the reversal. Results illustrated by an example confirm the adequacy of the developed algorithms used to determine the diagonal branches and carry out the reversion manoeuvre. It is established that prior to the fire occurrence, the effects of the reversion process on the risk levels have to be thoroughly investigated in order to plan the rigorous fire fighting procedures.

We present schemes of deterministic finite automata such that, for every nontrivial automaton A resulting from the scheme with n states, the state complexity of the mirror image of the language L(A) equals 2n. The construction leads to cases, where the increase in complexity is maximal in the transition from nondeterministic devices to deterministic ones. We also discuss the crucial importance of the size of the alphabet and present some open problems.
