W artykule opisano podstawowe problemy techniczne oraz logistyczno-ekonomiczne występujące podczas modernizacji sprężarek promieniowych. Podstawą dla artykułu jest przeszło czterdziestoletnie doświadczenie autorów w dziedzinie revampu sprężarek zwłaszcza procesowych. Opisano proces modernizacji czterech sprężarek promieniowych (powietrznych) pracujących w jednej z polskich elektrowni. Maszyny te zostały uruchomione po modernizacji w latach 2018-2019. Omówiono: problemy formułowania parametrów modernizacyjnych, ryzyko związane z dokładnością obliczeń 1D oraz 3D (kod CFX), zagadnienia technologiczne, problemy logistyczne i problemy badań odbiorczych.

The article describes basic technical, logistic and economic issues occurring during modernization of radial compressors. The basis for the article is the authors' over forty years of experience in the field of compressors, especially process ones. The process of modernization of four radial compressors was described (airborne) working in one of the Polish power plants. These machines were launched after modernization in 2018-2019. Discussed: problems of formulation of modernization parameters, associated risk with 1D and 3D calculation accuracy (CFX code), technological issues, logistic problems and problems acceptance tests.

Content available remote Modernization of centrifugal chlorine compressor

In this paper modernization of a three-stage chlorine centrifugal compressor, in which chlorine is pressurized has been described. Machine nominal mass flow has been increased by 20% and the pressure rise has remained almost unchanged. New construction concept has been chosen basing on analysis of different design variants. Calculations were conducted with one-dimensional method with usage of in-house developed code. Algorithms implemented to this program are based on empirical studies and wide experience in compressor modernization and design. Moreover, results of modified machine acceptance test results, which satisfies VDI norm 2045/ISO 5389 has been presented.

Content available remote Technical aspects of a large size industrial process turbo compressor revamp

Current paper describes several modernization aspects of the process 8MW air compressor and its driver. The main aim of revamp was to increase internal efficiencies of both compressor and turbine and increase the load of the compressor without additional Power consumption. The original pressure ratio was preserved. To meet these requirements a redesign of the flow path of both machines was necessary. Moreover, the turbine working conditions were changed from extraction-condensing to condensing. In terms of compressor, impeller blade redesign, adaptation of diffusers and Abradable seals application were a part of the scope. The revamp was completed in April 2014 with all the requirements met. The paper covers the general outline and a comparison of the original and modernized machine operating parameters, design and technical assumptions, but also describes some problematic issues which occurred during the realization of the project.
