The purpose of this article is to identify the desired changes in cost management in Polish mining enterprises, based on the results of the diagnosis made in the period of the years 2001-2016. To achieve this goal, the first part of the article describes the previous experience of Polish mining enterprises in the field of cost management, and then formulates the main directions of improving this process, aiming at improving their efficiency.

Ponadprzeciętna cykliczność rynku stalowego wymaga odpowiedniego ukształtowania struktury finansowej, a ewentualne procesy restrukturyzacyjne napotykają na szereg trudności. W artykule zaprezentowano proces restrukturyzacji spółki działającej na rynku wyrobów stalowych. Na przykładzie firmy Złomrex omówione zostały etapy dynamicznego wzrostu w okresie koniunktury, jak i dogłębnej restrukturyzacji w dobie kryzysu.

More than average cyclicality of steel market requires an appropriate capitalisation structure and potential restructuring processes run into a number of difficulties. In the article a restructuring process of a steel company was presented. Using an example of a firm, Złomrex S.A. stages of rapid growth during booming market as well as dip restructuring during the crisis were discussed.

Celem artykułu jest analiza modelu, w którym podmiot gospodarczy dokonuje wyboru źródeł finansowania projektów inwestycyjnych, przy uwzględnieniu ryzyka i możliwości restrukturyzacji kredytu bankowego w przypadku niepowodzenia. Kredyt bankowy jest korzystny dla firm o umiarkowanym ryzyku i stabilnych przepływach finansowych. Firmy o małym ryzyku wybiorą kredyt obligacyjny, a firmy bardzo ryzykowne nie uzyskują kredytu bankowego i muszą szukać finansowania na rynku kapitałowym.

The objective of the paper is to examine the model of enterprise's choice of investment project financing source, taking into account risk and a possibility of loan renegotiation. Bank loan is more valuable for firms with medium risk and stable cash flows. Low risk borrowers prefer capital market and high risk ones, being refused bank loan, have to turn to capital market too.

W artykule zaprezentowano strategiczno-finansowe aspekty restrukturyzacji Huty Katowice, od momentu transformacji ustrojowej, aż do chwili obecnej. Analizowany okres podzielono na pięć przedziałów czasowych, w których realizowane były odmienne działania restrukturyzacyjne, począwszy od restrukturyzacji wewnętrznej, poprzez nieudane próby prywatyzacji (negocjacje z Sidmarem i British Steel), a skończywszy na inkorporacji Huty Katowice do PHS. W opracowaniu postawiono tezę, iż jednym z głównych powodów trudnej sytuacji Huty w badanym okresie była - poza niewłaściwą strukturą asortymentową produkcji - nieprawidłowa struktura kapitałów, która oddziaływała bardzo negatywnie na zdolność Huty Katowice do skutecznego konkurowania na rynku. Te dwa czynniki determinowały zatem rodzaj i charakter podejmowanych działań restrukturyzacyjnych.

The article presents strategig and financial aspects of Katowice steelworks restructurization since the beginning of transformation of Polish economy up to now. Analyzed time has been devided into five main periods and in each of them different restructuring concepts have been applied. Internal restructuring was implemented initially, then unsuccessful privatization processes i.e. negotiations with Sidmar and British Steel and finally incorporation of Katowice steelworks to Polish Steelworks Organization (PS). A thesis was made that one of the main reasons of problems experienced by Katowice steelworks was - apart from the wrong assortment structure - inappriopriate structure of funds which influenced very negative the Company's ability to compete effectively on the steel market. These two factors determined the kind and nature of restructuring actions that have been applied.
