Analysis of the porosity-depth, permeability-depth, and permeability-porosity relationships, as well as the parameter of reservoir potential RQ (result of relationship porosity v. permeability) of in the Upper Rotliegend sandstones of fluvial and aeolian origin and also of shallow marine (Weissliegend) sandstones from the Zielona Góra Basin in western Poland discussed in relation to the sedimentary settings, coupled with microscopic observations, have indicated that the most important factor determining the reservoir properties is cementation and/or matrix content in the pore space. The map of the mean distribution of the reservoir potential RQ for the topmost 50 metres of the Rotliegend have indicated a patchy distribution of zones with the highest and lowest reservoir potential in the central part of the basin, which is controlled mainly by the amount of carbonate, sulphate and illite cements in the pore space. Compaction had a minor influence on the presently noted reservoir properties, particularly in poorly-cemented sandstones.
