W artykule omówiono historię odkrycia i udostępnienia, jednej z największych i najlepiej zachowanych na świecie, neolitycznej kopalni krzemienia pasiastego w rezerwacie Krzemionki Opatowskie. Obiekt ten, jako zabytek kultury materialnej, posiada wyjątkowe walory naukowe i dydaktyczne, w skali światowej. Jego unikatowe znaczenie wynika z bardzo dobrze zachowanych podziemi kopalni oraz zagłębień po szybach, mimo upływu tysięcy lat. Jest on udostępniony dla zwiedzających w formie podziemnej trasy turystycznej oraz skansenu neolitycznego i cieszy się coraz większym zainteresowaniem wśród turystów. Eksploatowany tu krzemień pasiasty odegrał znaczącą rolę w rozwoju kultury materialnej człowieka w okresie neolitu i wczesnej epoce brązu, na obszarze Polski i krajów ościennych. Omówiono tu również teorie próbujące wyjaśnić genezę krzemieni.

The article discusses the history of the discovery and access to one of the largest and best preserved in the world, Neolithic flint mines in the reserve Silica Opatowskie. It opened to the public in the form of underground tourist route and the museum Neolithic and is becoming more and more popular among the tourists.
