Z początkiem 2023 roku Sieć Badawcza Łukasiewicz - Instytut Metalurgii Żelaza rozpoczyna swoją działalność w strukturze nowego instytutu pod nazwą Sieć Badawcza Łukasiewicz - Górnośląski Instytut Badawczy, po konsolidacji z instytutami Łukasiewicz - Instytut Spawalnictwa i Łukasiewicz - Instytut Napędów i Maszyn Elektrycznych KOMEL. W przeddzień tej zmiany w niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono dorobek badawczy Łukasiewicz - IMŻ w 2022 roku oraz tematykę planowaną do podjęcia w 2023 roku. Uwzględniono prace finansowane z krajowego i unijnego budżetu na naukę, jak również znaczące zaangażowanie Instytutu w realizację projektów stosowanych, przyczyniających się do podnoszenia innowacyjności krajowego przemysłu, w tym sektora energetycznego i obronnego. Zwrócono uwagę na dynamicznie rozwijające się nowe technologie wodorowe w metalurgii, technologie przyrostowe oraz wysokotemperaturowe charakterystyki materiałowe, istotne dla przemysłu lotniczego i kosmicznego. Jednocześnie pragniemy poinformować, że obecny numer „Journal of Metallic Materials” jest ostatnim wydaniem naszego kwartalnika, publikującego oryginalne wyniki prac badawczych z zakresu metalurgii, inżynierii materiałowej, chemii, ochrony środowiska oraz zarządzania w hutnictwie żelaza i stali. Jego tradycje sięgają 1949 roku, kiedy to wydano pierwszy zeszyt czasopisma pt. „Prace Badawcze Głównego Instytutu Metalurgii i Odlewnictwa”. W latach 1976-2018 kwartalnik ukazywał się pt. „Prace Instytutu Metalurgii Żelaza. Tytuł zmienił się na obecny w 2019 roku. Wszystkim czytelnikom i autorom artykułów oraz recenzentom w imieniu całego zespołu redakcyjnego dziękujemy za współpracę. Utworzenie nowego Instytutu z pewnością stworzy warunki do kontynuacji działalności wydawniczej w szerszym zakresie merytorycznym.

At the beginning of 2023, Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy (Łukasiewicz - IMŻ) begins its activity in the structure of a new institute under the name of Łukasiewicz Research Network - Upper Silesian Institute of Technology, after consolidation with Łukasiewicz - Institute of Welding and Łukasiewicz - Institute of Electrical Drives and Machines KOMEL. On the eve of this change, this study presents the research achievements of Łukasiewicz - IMŻ in 2022 and the topics planned to be undertaken in 2023. It takes into account projects financed from the national and EU budget for science, as well as the significant involvement of the Institute in the implementation of applied projects that contribute to increasing the innovativeness of the domestic industry, including the energy and defence sectors. Attention was paid to the dynamically developing new hydrogen technologies in metallurgy, additive technologies and high-temperature material characteristics, important for the aerospace industry. At the same time, we would like to announce that the current issue of “Journal of Metallic Materials” is the last issue of our quarterly, publishing original research results in the field of metallurgy, materials engineering, chemistry, environmental protection and management in the iron and steel industry. Its traditions date back to 1949, when the first issue of the journal was published under the title “Prace Badawcze Głównego Instytutu Metalurgii i Odlewnictwa (Research Works of the Central Institute of Metallurgy and Casting)”. In 1976-2018, the quarterly was published under the title “Prace Instytutu Metalurgii Żelaza (Works of the Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy)”. The title changed to the current one in 2019. On behalf of the entire editorial team, we would like to thank all readers and authors of articles and reviewers for their cooperation. The establishment of the new Institute will certainly create conditions for the continuation of publishing activities in a broader substantive scope.

Research issues undertaken within quality management – the overview of selected literature

Quality is currently a key element in the process of the rivalry where the customer is at stake. Contemporary enterprises undertake several actions aimed at its creation and more effective quality management. This is as well required by the market with enterprises of various character that frequently demand specific solutions. The scientific environment eagerly develops this concept in response to such a prevailing need. The issue of quality management, despite its long history, remains a dynamically developing research discipline and a scientific consideration. Subsequently, this is a very extensive field which encompasses many issues. Thus, this work mainly focuses on identifying research threads undertaken within quality management in selected periodicals. The article describes the undertaken overview and indicates research threads entailed within the analysed subject matter. Moreover, the resultant list of threads was presented in the form of a knowledge map reflecting their coexistence in specific articles. The methods used while preparing this article constitute an overview of the literature and a network analysis. The research threads highlighted in the paper indicate, which topics are of interest among researchers in terms of issues related to quality management, while their presentation in the form of a network enables fast and unambiguous access to knowledge within this area. The results of analyses described in the publication may attract the interest of mainly those who scientifically deal with the development of the concept of quality management, as well as enterprises that would wish to get acquainted with current trends in this field.
