W artykule opisano historię 50 lat badań rozruszników wiroprądowych prowadzonych na Wydziale Elektrycznym Politechniki Wrocławskiej. Przedstawiono opisy budowy opracowanych rozruszników wiroprądowych. Przedstawiono sylwetki głównych uczestników zespołu badawczego rozruszników wiroprądowych i podano tematykę prowadzonych przez nich prac badawczych. Wyszczególniono najważniejsze osiągnięcia badawcze i wdrożeniowe zespołu badawczego.

The article describes the history of 50 years of research on eddy current starters conducted at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Descriptions of the construction of the developed eddycurrent starters are presented. The significant advantages of eddy current starters are: simple structure, small dimensions, low production costs, high operational reliability, no moving parts and no coolant, no need for service and maintenance. The eddy-current starters can be operated as the rotor starters at the connection to the slip-ring induction motor or as the stator starters at connection to the stator terminals of squirrel-cage induction motor or to the armature terminals of synchronous motor. As a result, the advantageous stepless waveforms of the starting torque of the motor are obtained and the value of the starting current of the motor is reduced. The composition of research team for studies of eddy-current starters was presented. The profiles of the main participants of the research team were described and the topics of their research were given. The developed Ph.D. thesis, scientific articles, technical reports and patents were mentioned. The most important industrial implementations of eddy-currents are listed and discussed.

Autor dokonał wyboru najpoważniejszych, jego zdaniem, osiągnięć badawczych Instytutu Technologii Nafty, w okresie niemal półwiecza jego istnienia (1958-2007). Wskazał na osiągnięcia w opracowywaniu i projektowaniu zarówno procesów rafineryjnych (blok olejowy, paliwo lotnicze) jak i procesów dotyczących dodatków uszlachetniających. Ważnym elementem prac Instytutu były również badania procesów katalitycznych. Prace te owocowały wieloma zgłoszeniami patentowymi (ponad 550), które w większości uzyskiwały status patentu. W przedstawionym przeglądzie osiągnięć nie zabrakło także prac związanych z opracowywaniem i wdrażaniem nowych i unowocześnionych paliw silnikowych, w tym również zawierających biokomponenty (etanol, FAME), czy też problemów związanych z regeneracją olejów odpadowych. Autor przypomniał także o tym, że równolegle do prac technologicznych w Instytucie prowadzona była szeroka działalność analityczna oraz prace z zakresu oceny właściwości eksploatacyjnych przetworów naftowych. W wyniku prowadzonych wieloletnich badań Instytut dysponuje obecnie bogatą biblioteką analiz rop naftowych, bierze udział w monitoringu paliw, jest uznaną placówką prowadzącą badania silnikowe zgodnie z uznanymi metodami międzynarodowymi i prowadzi wiele innych prac na rzecz zakładów branży rafineryjno-petrochemicznej i organów Państwa.

The author selected the most significant, in his opinion, research achievements of the Institute of Petroleum Technology in nearly fifty years of its existence (1958-2007). He pointed out the achievements in development of both refining processes (the oil unit, aviation fuel) and processes relating to the refining agents. An important element of the research work of the Institute was also examination of catalytic processes. The research resulted in many patent applications (over 550), the majority of which were admitted the patent status. Presented review of achievements encompasses also works connected with development and implementation of new and modernized engine fuels, including those containing biocomponents (ethanol, FAME), or problems associated with regeneration of by-product oils. The author reminded also that apart from dealing with technological work, the Institute conducts also widespread analytical and research work in evaluation of exploratory properties of oil products. Due to many years standing research work, the Institute has been provided with a rich library of petroleum analyses, it participates in fuel monitoring and it is a recognized institution performing engine tests in accordance with acknowledged international methods and it conducts many other works for refinery and petrochemical plants and state authorities.
