Possibilities of reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation purposes in the Northern Jordan Valley

The possibilities of treated wastewater (TWW) reuse for irrigation purposes in the Northern Jordan Valley have been described. As shown by the analysis of the data, the results indicate a wide non-compliance with the Jordanian Standard 983/2006. Most problematic parameters are BOD, COD, nitrogen content, TSS. TWW will be blended with fresh water prior to use in agriculture. The blended water quality was reviewed after mixing of fresh water with the existing TWW without plant improvements. In general if there are no WWTP upgrades, the blended water quality satisfies the requirements of the Jordanian Water Quality Guidelines.

Wastes of animal industries are valuable high-protein forage for animals and birds. However the technology of waste processing should guarantee safe toxicological and microbiological status of a ready product, its high fodder value, an opportunity of long storage and ecological safety. As a basis of new technology on processing waste of animal industries is extrusion of the material. Sharp pressure difference at an output extruded article from a trunk extrusion machine, leads to break cell wall, including cell wall of microorganisms, fungi and mustiness. During "dry" extrusion of animal industries waste exposed in short-term (up to 30 seconds) to influence of a heat (up to 175°?), at pressure up to 40 atm., and also to friction in the damp environment. Short-term temperature processing renders the minimal influence on quality of fiber, destroying in him only secondary communications, not destroying amino acids (assimilation a protein makes 90%, lysine comprehensibility up to 88%), inactivation antinutritious factors, destroys or suppresses up to a comprehensible level toxins of bacteria, fungi and mustiness. For 30 seconds of stay of raw material in extrusion machine moisture content goes down to 50% (from initial), the heat and pressure will neutralize action of the enzymes contained in the waste that promotes substantial growth of periods of storage of finished goods.

Scharakteryzowano teren dawnego wysypiska odpadów komunalnych, które eksploatowano bez dokumentacji hydrogeologicznej i projektowej. W czasie budowy elektrociepłowni Kawęczyn na wysypisko usuwano odpady budowlane, w tym ziemię z wykopów. Teren wysypiska jest rekultywowany technicznie poprzez nakładanie glebotwórczej warstwy odpadów paleniskowych Elektrociepłowni Kawęczyn. Na półmetku tej rekultywacji za celowe uznano dokonanie weryfikacji projektu rekultywacji technicznej i biologicznej oraz ukierunkowania porekultywacyjnego zagospodarowania terenu. Przedstawiono więc: ocenę stanu realizacji projektu rekultywacji technicznej, zalecenia dotyczące kontynuowania rekultywacji technicznej, glebotwórcze właściwości gruntu ukształtowanego w rekultywacji technicznej, sposób ukształtowania gleby, sposób ukształtowania szaty roślinnej, prorekultywacyjne sposoby zagospodarowania terenu ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem funkcji rekreacyjnej dla mieszkańców Warszawy. Stan rekultywowanego terenu zilustrowano fotograficznie.

The site was characterised of the former communal landfill that had been exploited without hydro-geological and design documentation. Building waste and earth from excavations were dumped onto the site at the time when the Kawęczyn heat and power plant had been under construction. The landfill site now undergoes technical reclamation, which consists in overlaying of a soil-forming layer of furnace waste from the Kawęczyn plant. At the half-way stage of the development it was deemed purposeful to verify the project of technical and biological reclamation and to redirect the management of the site. To this end the following was elaborated:The evaluation of status of implementing the technical reclamation; Recommendations concerning further technical reclamation; Description of soil-forming properties of ground resulting from technical reclamation; The soil formation method; The vegetation-cover formation method; Ways of site management taking into account especially the amenity function for Warsaw inhabitants.The progress of site reclamation was photographically illustrated.
