The aim of the research was to determine the effect of the primary quality of reclaim from dry mechanical reclamation on the strength properties and service life of moulding sands based on this reclaim. Another aim was to establish the effect of the quality of reclaim, sulphur content - in particular, on the surface quality and thickness of the deformed surface layer in ductile iron castings. The research has revealed differences in the strength parameters and service life (mouldability) of sands based on the tested reclaims, depending on the type of the furfuryl resin used, including resins whose synthesis was done as part of the Żywfur project. Examinations of the structure of the surface layer of test castings poured in moulds made of loose self-hardening sands containing the addition of reclaim have confirmed the occurrence of degenerated spheroidal graphite in this part of the casting. It should be noted here that when massive castings with a long solidification time are made, the graphite degeneration effect can be more visible and the layer with the changed structure can increase in thickness. The research has clearly shown that it is necessary to control the parameters of the reclaim, including sulphur content which is transferred from the hardener and accumulates on the grains. This phenomenon has a negative impact not only on the sand strength and technological properties but also on the surface layer of castings.

Wstępnie usieciowane mieszanki kauczuku butylowego (IIR) i regeneratu zmieszano z dodatkiem plastyfikatora i żywicy sieciującej. Stopień zwulkanizowania mieszanki regulowano zawartością żywicy sieciującej. Wykonane przedmieszki zostały użyte do produkcji mas uszczelniających charakteryzujących się dobrą stabilnością wymiarów oraz obniżoną spływnością. W niniejszej pracy zbadano wpływ zastąpienia IIR regeneratem butylowym na właściwości mas uszczelniających.

Semi-vulcanized masterbatches of butyl rubber (IIR) and butyl reclaim were mixed with plasticizer and crosslinking resin. The degree of vulcanization is regulated by the content of crosslinking resin. The masterbatches were used for production of thermoplastic sealants, which had good dimensional stability and low slump. Current work investigates the dependency of sealant properties on the content of IIR replaced with butyl reclaim in the masterbatches.

In this paper, the results of decomposition of the moulding sand with furan-formaldehyde resin (with middle content of furfuryl alcohol about 50 %) also on a quartz matrix and with additions of a reclaimed material, under industrial conditions, are presented. Investigations of the gases emission in the test foundry plant were performed according to the original method developed in the Faculty of Foundry Engineering, AGH UST. The dependence of the emitted PAHs and BTEX group substances and ignition losses on the reclaim fraction in a moulding sand are of a linear character of a very high correlation coefficient R2. On the bases of the derived equations, it is possible to determine the amount of the emitted hazardous substances from the moulding sand containing the known fraction of the reclaim.

The investigation results of the reclaiming ability of a spent moulding sand with the geopolymer Geopol developed by the SAND TEAM Company as well as a moulding sand with a modified binding system based on the geopolymer binder and new hardener offered by the KRATOS Company, are presented in the paper. The basic aim of investigations was the comparison of the reclaiming ability of spent moulding sands with additions of hardeners supplied by various producers. All hardeners were of the same hardening rate. Amounts of the geopolymer binder and of the hardener was the same for both tested moulding sands.

This paper presents a new perspective on the issue of reclamation of moulding and core sands. Taking as a premise that the reclamation process must remain on the surface of grains some not separated binding materials rests, it should be chosen the proper moulding sand's composition that will be least harmful for the reclaim quality. There are two different moulding and core sands taken into examinations. The researches prove that a small correction of their compositions (hardener type) improves the quality of the received reclaims. Carried out in this article studies have shown that such an approach to the problem of reclamation of the moulding and core sands is needed and reasonable.

Zaproponowano ocenę właściwości fizyko-chemicznych i technologicznych regeneratu uzyskanego z regeneracji mas samoutwardzalnych (z form dwuwarstwowych) metodą mechaniczno-wibracyjną. Wprowadzono jako elementy oceny każdorazowo relację właściwości po regeneracji w stosunku do właściwości wyjściowych (piasków czy masy formierskiej). Wprowadzono do oceny również współczynniki zintegrowane.

Uzasadniono potrzebę odzysku piasku z mas formierskich i rdzeniowych na drodze ich regeneracji. Przeprowadzono analizę różnych systemów regeneracji. Zaprezentowano instalacje regeneracji pneumatycznej i mechanicznej oferowane przez PRODLEW–Warszawa. Zwrócono uwagę na możliwość ewentualnego odzysku piasku chromitowego w oferowanych instalacjach. Podkreślono zalety stosowanych systemów regeneracji w aspekcie ekonomicznym.

The need for recycling of moulding and core making sands using their reclamation was justified. Different systems of reclamation were discussed. Installations for the system of pneumatic and mechanical reclamation offered by PRODLEW in Warsaw have been discussed in detail by taking here into account the eventual separation of the chromite sand in the case of its use in the foundry. At the end of the paper the economic advantages of using the technology of reclamation of moulding sands were presented.
