The paper brings a mathematical description of the phenomena that occur in multi-function reactors made use of in water treatment. Three major types of multi-functions reactors are considered: a sludge-blanket reactor for coagulation of water pollutants, a filter-bed reactor for contact coagulation, and an activated carbon-bed reactor for the sorption process. Mathematical description was carried out for the following unit processes of the treatment train: coagulation, flocculation, filtration and sorption. The identification of the phenomena involved in the processes mentioned made it possible to determine the superposition of interactions. Prior to engineering applications, it is necessary to establish the values for the parameters of the proposed models by analytical methods and by calibration.
