Populacja w naszym kraju wynosi blisko 38 mln osób, jak wynika ze spisu powszechnego przeprowadzonego w 2022 r., ale oczywiście populacja czytelników jest znacznie mniejsza. Z badań prowadzonych przez Bibliotekę Narodową wynika, że obecnie 38% Polaków powyżej 15 roku życia deklaruje, że przeczytało co najmniej jedną książkę w roku. W tej grupie 40% kupiło książkę, co trzeci dostał w prezencie lub wypożyczył od znajomych czy rodziny, a co czwarty wypożyczył z biblioteki publicznej, szkolnej lub innej. Polacy najchętniej sięgają po literaturę kryminalną, obyczajową a także biografie, wspomnienia i książki historyczne dotyczące XX wieku.

The provisions of the European law have defined "Smart Metering" as a tool for remote meter readings and management of energy networks. Currently, after years of research and many real-life applications, it is one of the most popular solutions that defines friendly and modern cities. Similarly to automatic street lights, traffic signals or waste management systems, monitoring and control of water supply and sewage systems significantly improves the quality and comfort of life of city residents. The city infrastructure managers may use it as a tool that primarily allows for some cost savings and better resource management. The paper describes a remote transfer of water meters data through the Internet of Things technology. Also additional options have been presented, which are available once the data on water demand has been acquired. They can be communicated to other clients, e.g. other municipal services, as an element of Smart City, and to the customers. Thanks to this technology, the customers may analyze and better manage their actual water consumption trying to optimize it. Over time, it seems that saving water has become not only a fashionable whim but a trend to stay.

We consider the problem of obtaining parameterized lower bounds for the size of arithmetic circuits computing polynomials with the degree of the polynomial as the parameter. We consider the following special classes of multilinear algebraic branching programs: 1) Read Once Oblivious Branching Programs (ROABPs), 2) Strict interval branching programs, 3) Sum of read once formulas with restricted ordering. We obtain parameterized lower bounds (i.e., nΩ(t(k)) lower bound for some function t of k ) on the size of the above models computing a multilinear polynomial that can be computed by a depth four circuit of size g (k)n0(1) for some computable function g. Further, we obtain a parameterized separation between ROABPs and read-2 ABPs. This is obtained by constructing a degree k polynomial that can be computed by a read-2 ABP of small size such that the rank of the partial derivative matrix under any partition of the variables is large.

This analytical position paper aims to open discussion on the future naturalized technology of reading. Our analysis contributes to the discussion that scholars in human-computer interaction should borrow from other disciplines. We begin with seven-floor technology levels pyramid, which ends with naturalized technology. We look for the place of paper and digital book in this pyramid, currently somewhere between invisible and vital technologies. We discuss scenarios for the book, using current theories of reading from both philosophical and neuropsychological viewpoints. Finally, we show inspiring quantitative and qualitative data gathered during a "total research'' into the literary culture. They illustrate the ongoing change in the reading ecosystem.

Dane z opomiarowanych stref sieci służą do bilansowania rozpływów wody z rurociągów magistralnych, w tym wykrywania jej strat.

The technologies involving the remote reading of water meters enable advanced analyses to improve the effectiveness of water supply network management. The water utility company in Kraków has completed the pilot implementation of such systems. The data from the metered areas of the network are used to calculate the distribution of water from the water mains, including the detection of water losses.

The aim of the following article is to find the relation between natural and man-made shape (especially in architecture and its surroundings), which, in a more distant perspective, allows to draw up and develop measuring methods for interpretation of real forms by man and move the process onto a computer. A computer programme requires precise tasks and particular data, hence the attempt to systematize the rules, which govern shapes and their reception. The search involves both source rules, such as geometry and mathematics, but also the psychological side of reading shapes by humans. The author, referring to authorities in the field of psychology in architecture, explains the rules of perception, which, even though they concern humans, are being translated to rules that would facilitate the creation of an algorithm, which could read shapes in real space. The article is the beginning of further research of adapting the rules of human perception of outlines, edges and the course of a surface into the possibility of automatized reading of shapes by a computer.

Niniejsza praca ma na celu odszukanie relacji pomiędzy kształtem naturalnym a tym utworzonym przez człowieka (szczególnie w architekturze i jej otoczeniu), co w dalszej perspektywie pozwala opracowywać i rozwijać metody pomiarowe służące do interpretacji rzeczywistych form przez człowieka i przeniesienia tego procesu na komputer. Program komputerowy wymaga ściśle sprecyzowanych zadań oraz określonych danych, stąd próba usystematyzowania zasad rządzących kształtami i ich odbiorem. Poszukiwania obejmują swoim zakresem zarówno zasady źródłowe, takie jak geometria i matematyka, jak i stronę psychologiczną odczytywania kształtów przez człowieka. Autor, powołując się na autorytety z dziedziny badania architektury, psychologii w architekturze, wyjaśnia zasady percepcji, które mimo że z założenia dotyczą człowieka, stara się przełożyć na zasady służące opracowaniu algorytmu odczytującego kształty w przestrzeni rzeczywistej. Artykuł zapoczątkowuje dalsze prace nad zaadaptowaniem zasad postrzegania przez człowieka konturów, krawędzi i przebiegu powierzchni do możliwości zautomatyzowanego odczytywania kształtów przez komputer.

W artykule przedstawiono rozwój technologii czytania w dwóch środowiskach: druku i cyfrowym. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na czytanie naukowe. Przedstawiono rodzaje czytania z uwzględnieniem dostępnych w literaturze kryteriów podziału, takich, jak: szybkość i aktywność czytania, czytanie płytkie i immersyjne, ciągłe i nieciągłe oraz techniki unikania czytania. Przedstawiono zaangażowanie ciała w procesie czytania.

The article presents the development of the technology of reading in two environments: print and digital. Particular attention was paid to scientific reading. Several types of reading are described with regard to the criteria available in literature, such as the speed and the activity of reading, shallow and immersive, continuous and discontinuous reading as well techniques for avoidance of reading. The involvement of the body in the process of reading is shown.

The architectural works built space and can be read in different way. Some type of objects can be seen as sign, symbol, another as dominant in the city. Contemporary architecture move in the direction of innovation. New forms create space not always with respect to other forms. The important element of designing process should be context of place.

The influence on information transmission quality and reliability of the reading device objectives' optical parameters and blind persons age was analysed. For the experimental research was used the device, which transfers the information using tactile method. The device additionally has the sound information transmission facility. The results of the research were analysed by dispersive analysis methods. The analysis of research results enable: to estimate that the quality and reliability of transmitted information depend on optical parameters of objective and blinds' age; to determine the optimal objectives' parameters, which guarantee the maximal perception speed and reliability of receivable information.

Opracowany aparat do czytania dla niewidomych przeznaczony jest do odczytywania dowolnego tekstu (np., gazet, książek, itd.) i przekazywania go organom zmysłów osób niewidomych metodą dotykową. Aparat składa się z przyrządu odczytywania tekstu, przenośnego komputera, słuchawek i elektromagnetycznej matrycy dotykowej, która przekazuje odczytany tekst organom zmysłów człowieka. Do przyrządu odczytywania tekstu wmontowana jest miniaturowa kamera wideo z obiektywem optycznym o optymalnych parametrach. Kamera przekazuje obraz do komputera, w którym za pośrednictwem programu Fine Reader informacja jest przekodowywana w tekst w postaci kodu cyfrowego, a następnie, dzięki programom generacji dźwięku, - w sygnał akustyczny. Opracowana informacja z komputera przekazuje się na matrycę dotykową, a także, w razie potrzeby, - do słuchawek, które na etapie nauczania pomagają niewidomym lepiej zrozumieć informację, otrzymaną metodą dotykową. Eksperymentalnie badana była jakość i prawidłowość odczytywania tekstu. Analizowano wpływ parametrów optycznych obiektywów różnych przyrządów odczytywania tekstu i wieku człowieka na jakość i prawidłowość informacji, przekazywanej osobie niewidomej. Wyniki badań były opracowane metodami analizy dyspersyjnej. Ustalono, że jakość i prawidłowość przekazywanej informacji zależy od optycznych parametrów obiektywu i od wieku człowieka. Określono optymalne parametry obiektywu, które zapewniają prawidłowość i maksymalną szybkość opanowania informacji przez osobę niewidomą. Opracowany aparat stwarza niewidomym warunki czytania metodą dotykową książek i prasy, napisanych nie pismem Braille'a, a w zwykłej postaci. To znacznie rozszerza możliwości niewidomych w życiu społecznym.

The aim of the article is to acquaint the reader with methodology that appeared based on suggestiology and physiology on which all unconventional teaching methods derived from. Together with the increase of our knowledge on processes taking place in the brain, the methods are improved as well. This article is to hint how to activate these mind reserves that each of us is equipped with. The reader learns about advances in reading and memorising techniques, among others by repetition. The author proposes to do an exercise – creating “ a map of thoughts” that effectively eliminates the faults of simple note taking. The map of thoughts was exemplified on the lecture entitled “Troops’ Command System”.
