The provision of transport services is related to the fulfillment of a number of factors and travelers' expectations. Transport companies, realizing their activities, try to best meet the expectations of their clients. Meeting these expectations later translates into the level of use, by travelers, of a given carrier to carry out a trip. The article was made using the method of documentation analysis, evaluation and comparison of the effectiveness of selected railway carriers providing transport services with similar characteristics.

W artykule omówiony został transport kolejowy zajmujący się przewozem pasażerów w Polsce na przestrzeni lat 2015-2017. Przedstawiono zapotrzebowanie na tego typu usługi w naszym kraju oraz zaprezentowano informacje dotyczące wykonanej pracy przewozowej, za pomocą kolejowych środków transportowych, w ostatnich latach. Celem artykułu było także porównanie liczby przewiezionych pasażerów w Polsce koleją i innymi dostępnymi gałęziami transportowymi. Treścią artykułu były również dane na temat wypadkowości w transporcie kolejowym.

This article describes the rail transport engaged in passenger carriage in Poland over the years 2015-2017. The demand for this type of services in our country is presented along with the information about transport performance by means of rail transport in the recent years. The aim of the articles is also to compare the number of passengers carried in Poland by rail and by other available modes of transport. Moreover, the article contains data about the accident rate in rail transport.

In the introduction, the intermodal transport market in Poland is briefly described, with particular emphasis on the restrictions affecting the irregularity in its development. The author focuses on the current state of the intermodal transport in the Odra River estuary ports. Further, the project of the intermodal base in the ferry terminal Świnoujście is presented. The market potential for new sea-land connections is examined. Finally, paper shows the technical and operational assumptions for the intermodal connection Świnoujście- Budapest. The article includes a summary showing the other opportunities and risks in the development of intermodal transport to and from the ports of Western Pomerania.
