W Szwajcarii, pod Przełęczą św. Gotarda, powstaje najdłuższy na świecie tunel kolejowy - o długości 57 kilometrów. Budowę nowego szlaku kolejowego przez Alpy (Neue Eisenbahn-Alpen Transversale, w skrócie NEAT) rozpoczęto w 1999 r.

In Switzerland, the Gotthard Base Tunnel (under the Gotthard Pass) is currently under construction. When completed, it will be the longest rail tunnel in the world at 57 km. The tunnel will reduce the 3 hour 40 min rail journey from Zürich to Milan by one hour. Tribeton has been commissioned to supply the Low Vibration Track (LVT) system for the Gotthard Base Tunnel. The construction of the 114 km ballastless track structure, consisting of 380000 LVT system blocks, will begin in 2010.
