Artykuł przedstawia szerokie spektrum zastosowania sit szczelinowych zgrzewanych. Prezentowane są nowe rozwiązania konstrukcyjne oraz nowoczesne sposoby ich montażu. Artykuł charakteryzuje sita szczelinowe zgrzewane, jako kluczowe elementy maszyn klasyfikujących i układów filtracyjnych w procesach przeróbczych wzbogacania węgla kamiennego, wydobycia i rafinacji ropy naftowej oraz uranu. Przedstawiono sita, jako element, który podlega ciągłemu procesowi rozwoju, w celu zapewnienia urządzeniom przeróbczym maksymalnej skuteczności technologicznej, prostej i łatwej obsługi, bezawaryjnej pracy oraz efektywności ekonomicznej.

The article presents a wide spectrum of application of welded slotted sieves. We present new solutions of sieves design in terms of their construction and modern methods of installation. The article presents the welded slotted sieves, as key elements of machines and systems for classifying and filtration processes in coal mining and processing, extraction and refining of crude oil and uranium. The paper shows a screen as an element that is subject of a continuous process development, in order to ensure maximum effectiveness of the devices in beneficiation technology, simple and easy maintenance, faultless operation and economic efficiency.

Refinery Firefighters: Assessing Fitness for Duty

Firefighting is a hazardous and physically demanding activity. The demanding nature of the tasks involved in firefighting requires a high level of fitness both for the safety of the firefighting personnel as well as for the adequate performance of their tasks. Here, the characteristics (body weight, lung function, etc.) of a small group of refinery firefighters were investigated using exploratory factor analysis and discriminant analysis. The results indicated that there is a group of factors that characterize those individuals meeting minimum fitness requirements as described previously in the literature. The factors that were identified included those related to anthropometry (such as body composition and weight) and those related to physical capabilities (such as push-ups). Since these data are collected relatively easily in most occupational settings, they may offer an efficient surrogate method to determine fitness for duty among firefighters.
