Content of cesium-137 and potassium-40 in the area of the Mielnik district (Podlasie province) depending of the method of using the soils

In 2006 the contents of cesium-137 and potassium-40 in the soils of leafy and coniferous forests, wastelands and ploughlands lying in the area of the Mielnik district situated next to the Belarus border (Podlaskie province) were measured. The cumulation of radiocesium in soils depended on the method the soils were used and was as follows: leafy forests > coniferous forests > wastelands > ploughlands. The cumulation of potassium in soils decreased in the following order: ploughlands > leafy forests > wastelands > coniferous forests. In the litter of coniferous forests the content of radiocesium was two-times higher than in the leafy forests litter. Cesium in the soils of the Mielnik district was statistically positively correlated with the content of organic carbon in the soils, and potassium with the content of organic carbon, as well as silt and clay fractions.

W 2006 r. na terenie gminy Mielnik (woj. podlaskie), graniczącej z Białorusią, badano zawartość radioizotopów cezu-137 i potasu-40 w glebach lasów liściastych, iglastych, nieużytków oraz gruntów ornych. Kumulacja radiocezu w glebach w zależności od sposobu użytkowania gruntów przedstawiała się następująco: lasy liściaste> lasy iglaste> nieużytki> pola uprawne, a kumulacja potasu zmniejszała się w szeregu: pola uprawne> lasy liściaste> nieużytki> lasy iglaste. W ściółce lasów iglastych odnotowano około 2-krotnie większą zawartość cezu niż w ściółce lasów liściastych. Cez występujący w glebach na terenie gminy Mielnik skorelowany był statystycznie istotnie dodatnio z zawartością w glebach węgla organicznego, a potas z zawartością węgla organicznego oraz frakcjami pyłu i iłu.
