One of the biggest projects aimed at integration of the infrastructure of the European Union is the implementation of the European Rail Traffic Management System on the railway network of the Member States. Its goal is to unify the railway traffic control system in European countries, increase safety as well as ensure the interoperability of rail transport. One of its main components is ERTMS/GSM-R subsystem. This article presents the structure of the GSM-R system as well as associated systems. Services offered by the system are discussed. The rules of planning radio networks including the propagation model are described. The final part of the paper contains an example of radio planning for GSM-R system for selected railway line covering computations as well as simulation tests. The simulation of the radio coverage was prepared with the usage of ICS Telecom software.

W referacie przedstawiono analizę wyników pomiarów zasięgowych stacji bazowych TETRA oraz VHF wzdłuż linii brzegowej Zatoki Gdańskiej oraz porównanie ich zgodności z wynikami planowania radiowego przeprowadzonego w oparciu o model propagacyjny ITU-R P.15465. Autorzy zdefiniowali korektę dla modelu ITU-R P. 15465 dla analizowanych przypadków oraz przedstawili sposób jej wyznaczenia.

In the article, the analysis of TETRA and VHF systems’ range measurements results along the coastal line of the Bay of Gdansk has been carried out. Additionally, those data have been compared with the results of the radio planning performed using the ITU-R P.1546-5 propagation model. The authors defined the model’s correction factor for the analyzed scenarios and explained how it was obtained. Content available Lessons Learned from WiMAX Deployment at INEA

Home broadband access is continuously demanding more bandwidth fueled by video streaming, entertainment and gaming applications. In 2010, a company INEA decided to roll-out new WiMAX-based services aimed to meet the needs of home users across theWielkopolska region of western Poland. It was decided to follow the 802.16e standard and the Time Division Duplexing (TDD) mode that oer the ability to adjust the downlink/uplink ratio and thus are well suited for data transmission. After an extensive testing period of equipment from various vendors, engineers at INEA have chosen the Motorola (currently Cambium Networks) PMP320 solution because it is compact and its components are space- and energy-ecient. The company choice was also influenced by its simple operation, management and installation, which ensured low costs of ownership. So far, this deployment has provided fast and aordable connectivity for Internet and telephony services to around 5,500 households across the 30,000 sq. km region. After 3 years of experience, INEA would like to share the lessons learned from this roll-out.

Przedstawiono opis systemu WALKair w wersji 1000, dotychczas znanej i nowo wprowadzanej wersji 3000 z asynchronicznym trybem pracy ATM. Omówiono budowę obu wersji systemów i funkcje systemu zarządzania. Opisano główne funkcje systemu dotyczące realizacji usług IP, Frame Relay, dynamicznego przydziału pasma dla transmisji danych i głosu, mechanizm realizacji usługi szybkiego Internetu. Przedstawiono również przykład planowania radiowego sieci zrealizowany w kontrakcie pomiędzy firmą Siemens i FirstMark.

In the article is presented description of WALKair system in complementing one another versions 1000 and 3000. The version 1000, known before is extended with version 3000, which is based on asynchronous transmission ATM. It was described architecture of both versions and management system solution. In the article are described main futures covering functionality of IP, Frame Relay, dynamic bandwidth allocation for voice and data transmission. It is described mechanism of fast Internet. As an example of real radio planning was described radio planning of Hamburg area from the realisation of contract between companies Siemens and FirstMark.
