Celem artykułu jest ocena wpływu wartości kulturowych na bezpieczeństwo Unii Europejskiej. Przedstawiono uwarunkowania bezpieczeństwa tego podmiotu oraz dokonano identyfikacji podstawowych zagrożeń dla jej funkcjonowania. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na zjawiska radykalizacji i ekstremizmu jako zagrożeń dla wartości kulturowych. W pracy posłużono się metodami analizy i syntezy dokumentów.

The aim of the article is to assess the impact of cultural values on the security of the European Union. The security conditions of this entity were presented and the basic threats to its functioning were identified. Particular attention was paid to the phenomena of radicalization and extremism as threats to cultural values. The paper uses the methods of document analysis and synthesis.

Terroryzm jest niezwykle poważnym zagrożeniem, które dotyczy obecnie całej społeczności międzynarodowej. Zjawisko to podlega ciągłym zmianom i ewoluuje, dostosowując się do panujących warunków, co utrudnia jego zdefiniowanie. Szczególne zagrożenie stwarzają organizacje związane z islamskimi radykałami, które w swoich postulatach propagują zwalczanie wartości zachodniej cywilizacji. Kolejne zamachy przeprowadzane przez te ugrupowania na terenie Europy, mogą spowodować reakcję prawicowych ekstremistów, negujących idee multikulturowości.

Terrorism is extremely big threat to all mankind. This ideology is constantly changing and elvoving to adjust itself to world conditions. This process is impeding the definition possibilities of terrorism. In particular the biggest threat are organization linked to Islamic radicals, which postulate fighting with the Western culture. Next and ongoing terrorists attacks in Europe can provoke a reaction of right-wing extremists, who are negating the idea of multicultural world.

Since 9/11 combating islamic terrorism became one of the most important issues to American people and a significant topic in presidential elections. With the emergence of ISIS and recent spate of attacks in USA and othr Western countries, the public became increasingly frustrated with the Washington’s prosecution of the war on terror. The text focuses on the last race for the White House. It illustrates top GOP and democratic candidates’ strategies on fighting jihadism and underscores the desire of the large segment of Americans wanting a radical change in government’s approach to that menace.
