The results of measurements of the pressure distribution and numerical computations of flows in chambers behind the front and back shroud of the single-stage centrifugal pump with a volute casing are presented. It has been shown how a non-uniform pressure distribution at the impeller exit can influence the flow in chambers behind the front and back shroud. It has been proven that the nature of this flow can influence significantly the magnitude of forces and bending moments on the shaft and the leakage flow through the impeller seal and, consequently, it affects the conditions of an inflow to the impeller.
