Analysis of the 5S method functioning in a production company

Purpose: The goal of the paper is to analyses process of implementation and effectiveness of 5S method in an industrial enterprise. Design/methodology/approach: Critical literature analysis, questionnaire analysis, case study analysis. Findings: On the example of industrial organization that was in the presented paper an analysis of effectiveness of 5S implementation. On the basis of conducted analysis the main objectives of using 5S are: order in the workplace, maintenance of cleanliness and efficiency of machines and devices, shorter duration of activities. The main causes of problems with 5S implementation are connected with no time to do the work and lack of funds. The overall rating of efficiency of 5S method in analyzed enterprise is very good. Originality/value: Detailed analysis of main objectives of using 5S method and the main causes of problems with it in the industrial enterprise.

Głównym założeniem artykułu jest skontrolowanie jakości ram okiennych przy produkcji okien. W artykule wykorzystano tradycyjne narzędzie zarządzania jakością, jakim jest diagram Pareto - Lorenza. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań przy użyciu diagramu Pareto - Lorenza określone priorytetowe dla badanego produktu niezgodności. Następnym krokiem było wskazanie sposobów ich zapobiegania. Zastosowanie diagramu Pareto - Lorenza pomogło zweryfikować częstość pojawiania się niezgodności. Wykorzystane narzędzie pozwoliło zweryfikować najczęstsze błędy pojawiające się podczas produkcji ram okiennych. Poprzez poddawanie produktów analizie jakości i zastosowaniu odpowiednich narzędzi, przedsiębiorstwo może polepszać jakość wytwarzanych produktów. Uzyskane wyniki przedsiębiorstwo może wprowadzać rozwiązania dotyczące występowania niezgodności mające na celu doskonalenie produktu.

The main assumption of the article is to check on the quality of window frames in window production. The article uses a traditional quality management tool, which is the Pareto-Lorenz diagram. As a result of the tests carried out, using the Pareto-Lorenz diagram, the priority non-compliances for the tested product have been identified. The next step strived to identify the measures necessary to prevent them. The employment of the Pareto-Lorenz diagram allowed to verify the incidence of the occurrence of non-compliances. Moreover, the tool allowed to verify the most common errors that may appear during the production of window frames. Thanks to frequent quality controls and the application of appropriate tools, the company can improve the quality of manufactured products. The results obtained may push the company to introduce solutions aimed at improving the product and overcoming various non-conformities.

Głównym założeniem artykułu jest skontrolowanie jakości prętów okrągłych wykonanych ze stali. W artykule zastosowano narzędzie zarządzania jakością, jakim jest diagram Pareto-Lorenza. W wyniku dokonanych badań przy wykorzystaniu diagramu Pareto-Lorenza określono niezgodności prętów okrągłych. Kolejnym krokiem było wskazanie sposobów ich zapobiegania. Użycie diagramu Pareto-Lorenza umożliwiło zweryfikować częstość pojawiania się niezgodności oraz błędów występujących podczas produkcji prętów okrągłych.

The main assumption of the article is to check the quality of round bars made of steel. The article uses a quality management tool, Pareto-Lorenzo diagram. As a result of the tests carried out using the Pareto-Lorenz diagram, incompatibilities of round bars were determined. The next step was to identify ways to prevent them. The use of the Pareto-Lorenza diagram made it possible to verify the incidence of inconsistencies and errors occurring during the production of round bars.

Bardzo ważne jest zrozumienie idei, która leży u podstaw stosowanych narzędzi TQM oraz prawidłowe stosowanie tych narzędzi.

Most of the employees from big international firms know the meaning of TQM. In practice many of them don't know how to implement correctly and successfully the TQM principles to proper environments. What kind of factors are very important for the development of any firm in this consideration? We can use 7M or 7N quality tools, but without real committment and continuous aspiration to excellency it will be not possibly. Many seminars emphasize this element of activity. It is presented here, in this article as well. But the practice is the most important, even if it doesn't give the positive results in the first approach. Then is necessary the appriopriate improvement in action. But what to do earlier, should be discussed and determine before take the action. Very helpful is Hoshin Kanri performance. It starts from basic management philosophy, what is fundamental element for further activity: 16 points explain many aspects of such thinking and practice. It includes the motivation and self-motivation of people. And excellency is continuous aspiration, with crucial role of top management. The article presents these aspects of TQM implementation in practical and intellectual dimension.
