Quality attributes of primary health care services

Quality in primary health care is gaining a predominant role. Both public and private providers of primary health care services increasingly focus on quality issues, which allows them to gain a competitive advantage. In the article, fifty attributes determining the quality of services identified in literature are considered and evaluated in the context of primary health care services. Both technical attributes relating to the medical process itself and functional attributes resulting from patient experience as a client are studied. An analysis aiming to rank the importance of attributes was made on the basis of surveys carried out among 98 primary health care PHC managers. The research allowed for the identification of the most and the least important primary health care service attributes determining quality from the perspective of PHC managers. Functional attributes relating to patients` experience of care are being noticed as important and desired by patients. The findings resulting from this study can be practically applied at primary health care entities in order to maximise the satisfaction of patients through proper adjustment of business models.

Artykuł przedstawia rozważania na temat jakości usług przewozowych. Punktem wyjścia do rozważań jest definicja jakości, której znaczenie w kontekście rozwoju gospodarczego ulega ewolucji i rozszerzeniu. Jakość, w tym również jakość przewozów, obecnie stanowi coś więcej niż tylko stopień spełnienia oczekiwań klienta. Takie podejście – traktujące jakość w ujęciu ekonomicznym – jest niewystarczające w dobie działań zmierzających do zrównoważonego rozwoju. Dlatego też, również w zakresie definiowania jakości przewozów, zarysowuje się znaczenie nie tylko aspektu ekonomicznego, ale także ekologicznego i społecznego. Tę zmianę podejścia do jakości przewozów zaprezentowano w artykule. Ponadto przedstawiono analizę cech jakości, które w literaturze przedmiotu wskazywane są jako istotne z punktu widzenia badania jakości usług przewozowych. Można spotkać się z różnymi propozycjami zbiorów cech opisujących jakość usług transportu publicznego. Ich analiza dowodzi jednak, że niejednokrotnie proponowane zestawienia mają wiele elementów wspólnych, a rozbieżności, które ich dotyczą, to przede wszystkim sposób łączenia określonych cech w jedną syntetyczną, a także pomijania określonych cech jako mniej ważnych, uwzględniania rzadko spotykanych lub wręcz specyficznych. Zazwyczaj prezentowane zbiory cech jakości są zbieżne z podejściem do jakości usług przewozowych w ujęciu ekonomicznym – uwzględniają głównie te aspekty usług transportu publicznego, które są istotne z punktu widzenia pasażerów.

The article presents considerations concerning quality of transport services. Definition of the quality – which meaning in the context of economical development is enhanced and evolved - is a starting point for the consideration. A quality, including quality of transport services, nowadays is becoming something more than only level of meeting customer’s requirements. This approach – presenting quality in reference to the economy – is insufficient in the times of sustainable development. This is why, while defining quality of transport services, not only economical but also ecological and social aspects are taken under consideration. This change of approach to the transport quality is presented in the article. Besides, analysis of quality feature’s, determined in the literature on the subject – significant from the quality of transport services point of view – has been presented. There are different proposed sets of features describing quality of public transport services. Their analysis contributes with the consideration that many a time proposed specifications have many elements in common and differences are related most of all with the way of combination some features in one - synthetic feature, and also with excluding some features considered as less significant or including rarely applied or specific features. Usually, presented sets of features of public transport services are coincident with the economical approach and take under considerations features important from the passengers’ point of view.

Software products intended for on-line delivery by distributors serving an open community of subscribers are developed in a specific life-cycle model in which the roles of major stakeholders are strongly separated, unlike in any other software development model known in software engineering. Its specificity underlines the fact that a distributor of the final product, responsible for its acceptance for publication and delivery to subscribers (users), is not a member of the product development team. Similarly, users of the product, who normally act as clients in other software development models cannot participate in the process until it is published by a distributor. In the paper a test methodology defined by the industrial IEEE standard is analyzed in the context of that online delivery software development model and basic recommendation for the NIWA distribution platform to be operated by the CI-TASK Academic Computer Centre at the Gdansk University of Technology are formulated.

Investigation of enterprise architecture and software architecture in relation to quality attributes in military applications

In this paper the relations between enterprise and software architecture are investigated. These relations may be different for a company which uses the software as part of their operation as opposed to a company which develops software systems. The relations are usually very complicated, therefore only the attribute of quality was chosen for this study. This paper shows the importance of finding mappings between quality attributes on enterprise architecture and software architecture levels. Some examples from the military domain are given. An interesting example used in the military is the survivability quality attribute, which has similar meaning on enterprise, system, and network levels. This paper proposes some ways in which the relations may be investigated.

Using the Kano method for analysis of the attributes of a product in the automotive industry

The publication presents an example of using the Kano method to analyse the quality attributes of a product in the automotive branch. Using the Kano method, technical attributes of a product were analysed for a front bumper installed in Opel cars, which was followed by the identification of hidden factors by means of exploration factor analysis. The application of the extrapolation factor analysis has made it possible to discover that the examined set of twenty attributes of the product contains 5 hidden factors, which included: bumper aesthetics, resistance to external factors, lacquer properties, resistance to temperature and the precision of workmanship.

W publikacji zaprezentowano przykład wykorzystania metody Kano do analizy atrybutów jakości produktu w branży motoryzacyjnej. Dla zderzaka przedniego montowanego w samochodach marki Opel przeanalizowano atrybuty techniczne produktu metodą Kano, a następnie przy pomocy ekstrapolacyjnej analizy czynnikowej dokonano identyfikacji czynników ukrytych. Zastosowanie ekstrapolacyjnej analizy czynnikowej pozwala zorientować się, że w badanym zestawie dwudziestu atrybutów produktu można wyróżnić 5 czynników ukrytych, do których zaliczono: estetykę zderzaka, wytrzymałość na czynniki zewnętrzne, właściwości lakieru, odporność na temperaturę oraz dokładność wykonania.
