Algorithm of the implementation of continuous flow in unbalanced production unit condition – case study

This article shows step by step process of creating general algorithm saying how to implement continuous flow in production companies. Article is based on real environment of medium Polish production company, which produces steel halls. After presenting basic information about TOC and LEAN tools it shows and algorithm showing activities and sequence made in real company. Authors proposed solutions referred to both the material flow changing's and the information flow changing's. Main goal was adapt production process to unchangeable work of bottleneck. After all, results of production flow simulation after implementation of above solutions were presented. Finally, authors created algorithm based on techniques and tools implemented in mentioned company. It shows in general what production engineers should do step by step while implementing continuous flow in production.

Attention has been focused on the practical application of Lean Manufacturing, showing the same implementation of this method in various companies.

Omówiono aspekty projektowe i realizacyjne dotyczące nietypowej i jednostkowej konstrukcji, jaką były podpory do nasuwania mostu przez śluzy Rędzińskie we Wrocławiu. Bardzo duże i oddziałujące w sposób ciągły obciążenia, związane z tym znaczne wielkości przekrojów, węzłów i połączeń, a także konieczność uwzględnienia tymczasowego charakteru konstrukcji i wynikającej stąd optymalizacji kosztów, wymagały odpowiedniego podejścia i doświadczenia od wszystkich uczestników procesu jej powstawania.

This paper discusses aspects of design and execution of an unusual and individual structure that supports pulling the bridge over the Canal Lock „Rędzińskie” in Wrocław. Very large and continuously interacting loads, associated with the big cross-section sizes, joints and connections, as well as the need to account for the temporary nature of construction and its costs optimization, require an appropriate approach and experience of all participants in the process of realization of such a structure.

Dynamic programing is one of the major problem-solving methodologies in a number of disciplines such as operations research and computer science. It is also a very important and powerful tool of thought. But not all is well on the dynamic programming front. There is definitely lack of commercial software support and the situation in the classroom is not as good as it should be. In this paper we take a bird's view of dynamic programming so as to identify ways to make it more accessible to students, academics and practitioners alike.
