The paper deals with security environment. The author discussed issues connected with future threats, the conflict structure and a new approach to operation planning and performance in the 21st century. Then he put forward a thesis that the armed forces’ main task in the near future will be to take part in crisis management operations, the aim of which will be to create common security. This task may be fulfilled exclusively by well equipped, well trained and professional armed forces.
