On excavating soil in areas with a high groundwater level (cofferdam driven in permeable soils in river and maritime sites) seepage of water is a problem. In the design of the cofferdam, various flow conditions should be specified correctly, and the critical hydraulic head difference against seepage failure, Hc , must be estimated exactly. Although several methods have been proposed in the literature, they lead sometimes to great differences in the hydraulic head loss inducing failure. In this paper, the seepage failure problem of homogeneous (isotropic and anisotropic) and problem of multi-layered and isotropic sandy soil under axisymmetric flow conditions are mainly considered and analyzed using an explicit finite difference method implanted in the FLAC2D (Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua) Code. Various parameters affecting the stability of the cofferdam were examined. It was found that the effect of excavation shapes; soil anisotropy and nonhomogeneity is significant for the reduction of the critical hydraulic head loss H/f corresponding to the zero effective passive earth pressure.

Parkingi wielopoziomowe stały się nieodzownym elementem aglomeracji miejskich. Mogą być integralną częścią centrów handlowych, budynków biurowych lub stanowić samodzielną konstrukcję identycznie jak przy uzupełnianiu miejskiej infrastruktury drogowej. Ich liczba wzrasta z roku na rok. Uszkodzenia spowodowane błędami obliczania i konstruowania konstrukcji nośnej ujawnione już w pierwszym roku eksploatacji opisują prace. Dla przedstawionych w referacie usterek, wad, błędów, uszkodzeń użyto najbardziej ogólnego pojęcia nieprawidłowości. Mają one różne objawy, fazę powstania w procesie inwestycyjnym, przyczynę itp.. Badaniem objęto wyłącznie kilka parkingów wielopoziomowych eksploatowanych w czasie od kilku tygodni do około dwudziestu lat. Przykłady nieprawidłowości odniesiono do priorytetowo tu ustanowionego kryterium zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa konstrukcji nośnej.

Multi-storey car parks have become an inevitable feature of urban agglomerations. Sometimes they are integral parts of retail centres or office buildings, while in other cases they are independent facilities, as when supplementing the urban roads infrastructure. The number of these structures is increasing year by year. Cases of damage caused by errors in calculations and in the design of the supporting structure, coming to light as early as the first year of use, are described in. For the defects, faults, errors and cases of damage presented in the paper the most general concept of irregularity is applied. These have various symptoms, causes, etc., and occur at various stages in the development process. The research relates only to a few multi-storey car parks, which have been in use for times ranging from several weeks to around 20 years. Examples of irregularities are discussed in terms of the criterion taken here as a priority - that of ensuring the safety of the supporting structure.
