The study evaluated the impact of emissions (VOCs) as a result of the operation of the printing of plant at working positions of those performing their tasks outdoors or in buildings next door to the subject of the printing installation (offset printing). The first part of the paper presents the general characteristics of the process and materials used for printing. The further part shows the results of the modelling of emissions, depending on the operating state of purification (emission in normal conditions and emission conditions, which deviate from normal – failure state of the afterburner).

W pracy oceniono wpływ emisji zanieczyszczeń organicznych (LZO) wnbsp:wyniku działalności zakładu poligraficznego na środowisko. W części pierwszej przedstawiono ogólną charakterystykę procesu druku oraz wykorzystywanych farb. W dalszej części przedstawiono wyniki modelowanie emisji zanieczyszczeń w zależności od stanu pracy układu oczyszczającego (emisja w warunkach normalnych oraz emisja w warunkach odbiegających od normalnych – stan awarii dopalacza).

W pracy oceniono wpływ emisji zanieczyszczeń (LZO) przez zakład poligraficzny na stanowiskach pracy usytuowanych na wolnym powietrzu lub w budynkach sąsiadujących. Część pierwsza prezentuje charakterystykę procesu oraz materiałów wykorzystywanych do druku. W dalszej części przedstawiono wyniki modelowania emisji zanieczyszczeń w zależności od stanu pracy układu oczyszczającego (normalna praca oraz awaria dopalacza).

The text presents the basic issues of offset printing and shows instances of state of the art technological solutions from main three European manufacturers. The main objects of interest are solutions which will support profitable production of packaging products. Modern machines allow to increase production flexibility. Innovative technology facilitates cheaper machine exploitation and reduces ecological impact. Automation in production processes lead to faster and cost-ffective production, which improves competitiveness in printing industry market.

The article analyses strategies of sustainable development in the graphic arts industry. There are many deinitions of sustainable development, including this landmark one which first appeared in 1987: development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development calls for a convergence between the three pillars of economic development, social equity and environmental protection. The best illustration is an equilateral triangle, divided for three triangles. Every triangle symbolizes one of pillars. If triangles are identical it means ideal proportions between the three pillars: economy, ethics and ecology. Graphic arts is a specific branch of industry. Printing industry requires special attention in view of the sustainable development because it covers three steps of production: prepress, press and postpress (very often performed in one printing house).The article analyses strategies of sustainable development in the graphic arts industry. The printing industry is reentering its flourishing years. Many entrepreneurs make use of various grants, among which are funds from the European Union. Companies are investing in new technologies, employee training, production line upgrades and more. Management system enhancements in the areas of health and safety management, environment management, or the quality management can also be observed. Reasons for this may be many, but a desire for increasing organization work efficiency, legal and standard compliance, as well as production optimization are seen to be paramount reasons. The article presents the most commonly implemented management systems along with their short descriptions.

The Communists started to take control of the typographical industry already in 1944. Printing presses were taken over by various institutions, administrative units, and political parties. Some companies were included in the group run by the Central Administration of State Typographical Plants, which was reorganised several times, and subsequently placed under supervision of various ministries. During the years 1951-1956, typographical plants were administered by the Central Office for Publications, Typographical Industry and Bookselling. The war losses, estimated at 85% of the pre-war potential, combined with the difficulties constructing the presses and related machinery, lack of trained personnel quality of the printing materials (paper, ink, glue, cardboard), and with introduction of central planned economy into the typographical production processes, all resulted in poor quality of the printed books and other publications.

Obserwuje się coraz większe zainteresowanie technicznymi kompozytami wytwarzanymi z udziałem materiałów włókienniczych. Kompozyty wykonane z udziałem włóknin, dzianin czy tkanin znajdują zastosowanie w wielu gałęziach przemysłu jak również w medycynie, rolnictwie, rybołówstwie itp. Można stwierdzić, że obecnie właściwie nie ma dziedziny, w której nie odnajdziemy materiałów włókienniczych jako surowca podstawowego lub składowego wytwarzanych produktów. W artykule przedstawiono prace badawcze, których efektem było opracowanie nowych asortymentów kompozytów wytwarzanych przede wszystkim na bazie materiałów dzianych, a wykorzystywanych w introligatorstwie, poligrafii i budownictwie. W wyniku zrealizowanych badań opracowano technologie technicznych kompozytów stosowanych na: materiały okleinowe dla poligrafii i producentów opakowań ozdobnych, siatek ściernych do szlifowania gładzi gipsowych, płyt gipsowo kartonowych, szpachlówek, szlifowania tynku i powierzchni malowanych oraz do czyszczenia i matowania stali, drewna, plastiku i metali kolorowych, taśm hydroizolacyjnych m.in. do uszczelniania spoin, połączeń ściennych i przypodłogowych oraz narożników przed przenikaniem wody i wilgoci.

More and more interest in technical composites made with a share of textile material is observed. The composites made with a share of non-woven, knits or fabrics applied find applications at many industry branches, as well as in medicine, agriculture, fishery etc. One could state, that nowadays there's no area, where we can't find any textile materials as a basic or component material for manufactured products. The article presents research works, result of which was developing new ranges of composites manufactured before all on a basis of knit materials, and being used in bookbinding, typography and constructions. As a result of completed research, the technologies of technical composites have been developed for the following applications: veneer materials for typography and decoration wrappers manufacturers, meshes for grinding the plaster smooth surfaces, cardboard-plaster panels, putties, grinding the plaster and painted surfaces as well as for cleaning and matting the steel, wood, plastic and colour metals, hydro-insulating bands, i.a. for sealing the welds, joints of walls and floors as well as the corners against penetration of water and moisture.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę hałasu środowiskowego emitowanego przez nowoczesną drukarnię offsetową. Część pierwsza zawiera wyniki pomiarów poziomu mocy akustycznej głównych emitorów hałasu. W dalszej części zaprezentowano wyniki obliczeń hałasu środowiskowego wraz z weryfikacją pomiarową.

In this paper the analysis of environmental noise which is emitted by modern printing house is presented. The first part includes results of measurement of acoustic power level of principal noise sources. In the next part is presented the result of environmental noise calculation along with measurement revision of calculation.

Powłoka ink jet na podłożach nieporowatych musi zaabsorbować całkowitą nakładanego na nią ilość tuszu. Porowate podłoża papierowe absorbują znaczną ilość wody i chemikaliów przechodzących przez powłokę ink-jetową. Różnica w sposobie absorpcji pomiędzy dwoma typami podłoży ma wpływ na oddziaływanie z folią laminującą. Czternaście handlowych podłoży drukowano na wielu drukarkach z różnymi tuszami, a następnie laminowano. Stwierdzono, że adhezja laminacji rośnie ze wzrostem gramatury papieru. Wytrzymałość na odrywanie jest również zależna od typu i charakterystyki papieru. Oddziaływanie tuszy ze środkami zaklejającymi papier może znacznie obniżyć moc wiązań między włóknami. Wytrzymałość ta często była niższa niż adhezja pomiędzy folią laminującą a powłoką ink-jetową i w teście na delaminację papier ulegał rozerwaniu.

In media with non-porous substrates the ink receiving layer absorbs all inks. In porous substrates such as cellulosic, the substrate absorbs a significant amount of water and chemicals passing through the ink receiving layer. A difference in absorption between two types of media has an effect on interactions with lamination films. A dozen commercially available media were printed with several inks and laminated. It was found that laminating adhesion increases with the paper base weight. Peel strength is also dependent on type and characteristic of paper sheets. An interaction of inks with paper sizing agents can significantly reduce internal bond strength. The paper internal strength was frequently lower than the adhesion between laminating film and ink receiving layer and in the delamination test the paper was torn apart.

Na jakość i wydajność procesu cięcia papieru, wyrobów papierowych, książek, czasopism itp. znaczny wpływ ma stan ostrza noży krajarek. Dotychczas nie istnieje uniwersalna i praktyczna metoda diagnozowania stanu ostrza, którego jakość pogarsza się z upływem czasu eksploatacji. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań dowiodły, że skuteczną i nowoczesną metodą może by ciągłe monitorowanie stanu ostrza w oparciu o analizę sygnałów wibroakustycznych procesów cięcia.

Quality and rate of production in a paper cutting process as well as other paper products, books, journals etc. depend in a considerable degree on the condition of the knife edges of the cutters. There does not exist any universal and practical method for diagnosing the knife-edge condition. The quality of knife edge is worsening together with the time of exploitation. The results of the performed tests proved that as an effective and modem method one could consider a continuous monitoring the condition of the knife-edge basing on an analysis of the vibroacoustic signals during a cutting process.
