Transformation of the special services in Poland in the context of political changes

The article presents the transformation of special services in Poland against the background of political changes. It presents the activities of security bodies – civil and military intelligence and counterintelligence during the communist era. Their task was to strengthen communist power, eliminate opponents of the system, strengthen the alliance of socialist countries led by the USSR, and fight against democratic opposition. The creation of new special services was also shown: the UOP and the WSI. The focus was on the new tasks that were set for them in connection with the democratic changes and new alliances. There were presented spectacular UOP actions, which contributed to raising the prestige of Poland on the international arena.

W artykule przedstawiono transformację służb specjalnych w Polsce na tle przemian ustrojowych. Zaprezentowano działalność organów bezpieczeństwa – wywiadu i kontrwywiadu cywilnego oraz wojskowego w czasach PRL. Ich zadaniem było umacnianie komunistycznej władzy, likwidacja przeciwników ustroju, wzmacnianie sojuszu państw socjalistycznych pod przewodnictwem ZSRR, walka z demokratyczną opozycją. Ukazano również powstanie nowych służb specjalnych: UOP oraz WSI. Skupiono się na nowych zadaniach, jakie przed nimi zostały postawione w związku z przemianami demokratycznymi i nowymi sojuszami. Zaprezentowano spektakularne akcje UOP, które przyczyniły się do podniesienia prestiżu Polski na arenie międzynarodowej.

Autor artykułu opisuje problem Karenów, zamieszkujących Birmę w kontekście przemian ustrojowych po 2010 roku. Zarysowuje tło historyczne konfliktu pomiędzy kareńską mniejszością oraz rządem w Birmie. Przedstawia również sytuację obecną panującą w tym państwie.

The paper describes the problem of Karen people from Burma in context of system transformation after 2010. The author is outlining the historical background of the conflict between Karen people and government in Burma. The paper also shows the present situation in this country.

The article features the revaluations in European and geo-political order caused by the fall of communism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. It also presents how these factors changed Poland’s place and role in Europe and the world; Poland under an atomic superpower’s influence was a part of the system that in the military area developed a coalition doctrine of an offensive character. The information included in the article shows how the disappearance of the bipolar system and the collapse of the Soviet Union led to questioning the position of the USA. The author has also described the biggest changes in international relations that took place at the end of the 20th century; transformations that affected our region to such a degree that it even changed its name. Instead of the monolith stretching from Kamchatka to the Elbe River called Easter Europe; Central Europe emerged along with Eastern Europe and Easter - Southern Europe. The author has also pointed out in what way the reasons for the communism fall contributed to the speed of transformations performed in Central European countries and how the international situation in our environment and whole Euro- Atlantic zone changed Poland’s geo-political location after 1989.
