Technology and Properties of Distance Five-layered Double-Weft-Knitted Fabrics with Elastomeric Threads

This paper presents the concept of forming distance weft-knitted fabrics with five knitted layers in their structure. The knitted fabrics developed have a relatively large thickness in relation to the needle pitch and distance between the needle beds of the knitting machine on which they were formed. The effect described was obtained by combining three knitted layers with the use of different reports and the number of monofilament threads knitted-in, and by modifying the knitted layers with elastomer threads. The distance knitted fabrics designed and produced for potential use as preforms for composites and parts protecting against an impact were tested and analysed with respect to their structural parameters.

W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję wytwarzania rządkowych dzianin dystansowych zawierających w swej strukturze trzy warstwy dziane. Opracowane dzianiny charakteryzują się stosunkowo dużą grubością w relacji do podziałki uiglenia i odległości między łożami szydełkarki na której zostały wytworzone. Opisywany efekt uzyskano przez łączenie trzech warstw dzianych różnym raportem i liczbą wrabianych nitek monofilamentowych oraz poprzez modyfikację warstw dzianych nitkami elastomerowymi. Zaprojektowane i wykonane dzianiny dystansowe o potencjalnym przeznaczeniu na preformy do kompozytów i elementy ochronne przed uderzeniem, poddano badaniom i analizie parametrów strukturalnych.

The article presents the concept of producing distance weft-knitted fabrics of relatively high thickness in regard to the needle pitch and distance between the beds of a flat knitting machine. Such construction was obtained by linking external layers of the knitted fabric with different reports and a number of knitted-in monofilament threads, and also by the modification of external layers using elastomeric threads. Distance knitted fabrics designed for the potential use as preforms for composites and elements protecting against the impact were analised with regard to the structural parameters.

W pracy przedstawiono koncepcję wytwarzania rządkowych dzianin dystansowych o stosunkowo dużej grubości w relacji do podziałki uiglenia i odległości między łożami szydełkarki płaskiej. Efekt ten uzyskano przez łączenie warstw zewnętrznych dzianiny różnym raportem i liczbą wrabianych nitek monofilamentowych oraz modyfikacją warstw zewnętrznych dzianiny nitkami elastomerowymi. Zaprojektowane i wykonane dzianiny dystansowe o potencjalnym przeznaczeniu na preformy do kompozytów i elementy ochronne przed uderzeniem, poddano badaniom i analizie parametrów strukturalnych.

Study of the weavability of elastane based stretch yarns on air-jet looms

Elastane yarns are often used to produce stretch fabrics on knitting machines as well as rapier weaving machines. On air-jet weaving looms their use is still limited. That is why the objective of this paper is to investigate the weavability of elastane based stretch yarns on air-jet looms. Bobbins of elastane were woven on an air-jet loom and a distinction of the bobbins in three categories was made according to the most important production processes for elastane yarn: core twist, core spun and air covered. Yarn properties such as linear density, elongation at break and Air Index value were determined, weaving tests were performed and properties of the resulting fabric were determined.

This paper presents an investigation into the behaviour of fabric with elastane yarn during stretching. The aim of the research was to study the viscoelastic part of the stress-extension curve and behaviour of fabrics with elastane yarn after one hour stretching above the yield point. Research results of the viscoelastic part of the stress-extension curve show low values of stress and extension in the yield point (extension at the yield point is from 0.25% to 0.75%), which means a larger area of the viscoelastic behaviour of the fabrics was analysed. The results of research into the viscoelastic properties of fabrics with elastane yarn also show greater differences in viscoelastic properties on the stress-extension curve above the yield point, which means that the elastane in the yarn had started to affect the viscoelastic properties, with an extension which is higher than the one at the yield point. The results of the research also show that elastic extension after one hour of stretching the fabric to the specified extension of 25% is higher than the extension at the yield point, which moves between 22.2% and 24.1%. This figure is considered to be very high.

Opisano badania nad zachowaniem się tkanin z udziałem przędz elastomerowych podczas rozciągania. Celem badań było określenie lepko-sprężystej części krzywej naprężeniewydłużenie oraz zachowanie się tkanin z udziałem elastomerowych przędz po jednej godzinie rozciągu powyżej punktu mięknięcia. Wyniki badań krzywych rozciągania pokazały małe wartości naprężeń i wydłużeń w punkcie mięknięcia (wydłużenie w punkcie mięknięcia wynosiło od 0,25% do 0,75%), co oznacza duży obszar lepko-sprężystego zachowania się tkanin. Zaobserwowano również duże różnice właściwości lepko-sprężystych w obszarze krzywej rozciągania powyżej punktu mięknięcia, co oznacza, że udział elastomeru w przędzy wpływa wydatnie na krzywą rozciągu powodując osiągnięcie rozciągów znacznie większych od odpowiadających punktowi mięknięcia. Wyniki badań wskazują również, że sprężyste wydłużenie po jednej godzinie rozciągu tkaniny do określonej wartości 25% jest większe, niż wydłużenie odpowiadające punktowi mięknięcia, które jest zawarte pomiędzy 22,2% i 24,1%
