The presented study aimed to assess the influence of exercises in an open and a closed kinematic chain on the level of proprioception of an elbow joint. Examination was carried out on 25 patients, aged 19-30. Proprioception at 30, 60, 90 and 120 degrees of elbow flexion was measured for each patient. The exercises were performed within 2 weeks. Results shown that in the left limb there were statistically significant differences after application of exercises in open kinematic chains in position of 60 degrees of elbow flexion (p≤0,02) and after exercises in closed kinematic chains in 90 degrees of elbow flexion (p≤0,01). In the right limb, statistically significant differences after exercises in open kinematic chains (30, 60, 90 degrees) and in position of 120-degree flexion in closed kinematic chain, were observed. If there is a desire to improve proprioception above 90 degrees of elbow flexure, it is recommended to apply exercises in the closed kinematic chain.

Purpose: To evaluate the influence of two different heel heights on static balance and on limits of stability during functional reach test, with both the eyes open and eyes closed, in young women (age 22–27) who did not wear heeled shoes habitually. Methods: Thirtyone young women (age 22–27) performed balance tests on a stabilometric platform without footwear and in shoes with 4 cm and 10 cm heels. The center of pressure (COP) deviations range and velocity in anteroposterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) directions were assessed. The limits of stability were measured when the subject leaned the body in sagittal plane. Results: The ranges of COP deviations in AP and ML directions were already significantly higher in 4 cm heels in comparison to the barefoot condition. COP deviation velocity significantly raised with increasing heel height as well as when the eyes were closed. Conclusions: A more pronounced increase of COP deviation velocity than COP deviation range when measurement conditions become more difficult may indicate that young women anticipate postural corrections by stimulation of ankle proprioception when heeled shoes are worn. High-heeled shoes may lead to alterations in velocity feedback balance mechanism, which may increase the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Observed in our study adverse effect of heeled footwear on balance may predispose women to falls and injuries. Permanent use of stiletto high heels should be avoided by women.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess the symmetry of proprioceptive sense among female soccer players when trying to reproduce isometric knee extensions (right and left) and to analyze the impact of a given level of muscle force on proprioception. Methods: The study involved 12 soccer players aged 19.5 ± 2.65 years. Soccer players performed a control measurement of a maximum 3s (knee at the 90°) position in the joint. Subsequently, 70%, 50%, and 30% of the maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) were all calculated and then reproduced by each subject with feedback. Next, the players reproduced the predefined muscle contraction values in three sequences: A – 50%, 70%, 30%; B – 50%, 30%, 70%; C – 70%, 30%, 50% of MVC without visual control. Results: In every sequence, the participants found obtaining the value of 30% of MVC the most difficult. The value they reproduced most accurately was 70% of MVC. Both trial II and trial III demonstrated that the symmetry index SI significantly differed from values considered acceptable (SIRa). In each successive sequence the largest asymmetry occurred while reproducing the lowest values of MVC (30%) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: High level of prioprioceptive sense is important to soccer players due to the extensive overload associated with dynamics stops or changes in direction while running. Special attention should be paid to develop skills in sensing force of varying levels. It was much harder to reproduce the predefined values if there was no feedback.

W pracy przedstawiono projekt urządzeń do reedukacji osób z zaburzeniami propriocepcji. Prace projektowe zostały wykonane w programie Inventor 2009. Otrzymane wyniki z obliczeń potwierdziły poprawność przyjętych założeń projektowych i dobranych parametrów konstrukcyjnych urządzeń.
