The paper presents the results of strength and stability analysis of the conical vacuum chamber, which is the part of the particle detector called Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS for short). On the base of the results obtained for the preliminary design, certain modifications of the chamber were proposed. In the next step, the modified structure was studied and its wall thickness was optimized with respect to critical pressure condition. Additionally, due to some strict stiffness requirements demanded by experimenters, the analysis of strength and deflections was performed. The final, proposed shape of the chamber seemed to be also reasonable from manufacturing point of view.
